The months have passed quickly, and now it’s almost everyone’s favorite season: summer! With the kids out of school, you have plenty of free time with your family. Summer vacation is a great way to celebrate being together and introduce your children to new things.

Even if you aren’t going anywhere for this summer vacation, you can still get them outside and have fun at home with these 10 outdoor activities.

1. Camp Under The Stars

What child doesn’t like camping? You don’t always have to visit a campsite to help your child experience the great outdoors. Set your tent up in the backyard so they can explore nature from the safety of their own home. Help them roast a meal over the campfire as you did when you were a child.

2. Hike At Your Local Park

Find a park or natural environment that supports hiking. Choose something your kids can easily handle at their ages. Hiking is excellent for families, as it can help children build self-confidence and celebrate the value of physical exercise as they do.

Teach them about the wildlife they might see on the trail, but encourage them to leave no trace that they had ever been there. Teaching your children to respect and care for nature can help them grow into adults who understand the power of treating the environment right.

3. Have A Picnic

Picnics can be hard work, but they’re well worth it if done correctly. Instead of getting food from a restaurant, opt to make it yourself. Your picnic can be as simple as sandwiches and chips, or you can spend time making more complex recipes, such as deviled eggs or potato salad. Once you have your menu, it’s time to start looking for a spot.

You can opt to have a picnic in your yard, but one of the best parts of a picnic is appreciating the nature around you. It’ll be hard to keep you and your kids entertained if you’re staring at the same bits of nature you’re used to.

Try to find a park with a flat, grassy surface. Then, you can pick a date that works for you – one that’s sunny and bright. Your kids will be delighted to get out and experience a new part of their world.

4. Go Swimming

If you or someone you know owns a pool, you should dedicate a day to letting your kids swim. Of course, if the pool is in your backyard, you can have more than one fun swim day – but otherwise, it should be a major treat to your kids.

Just make sure to never leave your children unsupervised in the pool so you can avoid any accidents. Follow other safety measures, such as ensuring there’s at least one flotation device in the water for kids to grab onto if they need it, to keep your children happy and safe while enjoying their pool day.

5. Host A Game Night

You likely already participate in a family game night with your household. They might involve board games, card games, or video games – but when was the last time you implemented the great outdoors in your game nights? Play a sport with your kids in the backyard and try something different, like Red Rover or Duck Duck Goose.

6. Start A Garden

Growing your food can be exciting, but it’s tricky. Before you start a garden, understand your climate and what can be grown easily where you live. Then, you’ll want to start living and consuming things in a way that promotes garden growth.

If you have seeds left over from a plant, save them so you can later plant them in your garden. You can also compost plant-based materials to create an all-natural and effective fertilizer for your food. Get your kids to help you set up your garden and before long, you’ll all be enjoying the food you grew together.

7. Paint Rocks

If you don’t have any other pets at home, pet rocks are a great way to ease your children into the idea of having animals. Allow them to go outside and pluck their favorite rocks from the earth. Set up a paint station outside or in an open space indoors.

Give your kids plenty of bright colors to choose from and don’t forget fun things like faux fur and googly eyes. Let your children’s creativity run wild for this project. Once they decorate their new pet rocks, put them up for display in your living room.

8. Create A Scavenger Hunt

Making a scavenger hunt for your kids can keep them occupied and get them their daily dose of activity. You can come up with the prompts yourself or you can rely on a ready-made scavenger hunt that your kids can access from their mobile devices or on paper.

You can be as involved as you like or allow them to navigate the backyard independently. It’s a great way to get your kids playing alone and discovering things in nature.

9. Volunteer At An Animal Shelter

Many animal shelters let children volunteer as long as their parents are there to supervise them. Take your children to the animal shelter one weekend and spend the morning or whole day volunteering. You can teach your kids how to take care of animals and walk dogs. You may even find a new furry family member during your time spent volunteering.

10. Get Some Sunlight

You can bring indoor activities outside so your kids have more space to run around. Being outdoors encourages playtime, which is beneficial to your children in so many ways – including physically, socially, and mentally. Encourage them to read or play with pets outside rather than inside.

Just remember to use SPF 50 sunscreen. You and your kids both need to avoid sun damage when in direct sunlight.

Have Fun In The Sun, All Summer Long

Summer is a time to have fun and celebrate all your kids’ free time. Even if you’re still working during the most exciting season of the year, you can set your kids up for a fantastic break by entertaining them at or near home. Prepare for a fun season ahead with these outdoor activities and your kids will enjoy every minute of it from their backyard.

Hen parties are a great way to celebrate the upcoming nuptials of a friend or loved one. They are often filled with fun and excitement, as well as a few cheeky activities! If you’re looking for some ideas to add some spice to your hen party planning, look no further! In this blog post, we will discuss some fun activities that will get everyone in the party spirit. So grab your closest girlfriends and get ready for an unforgettable night!

Truth Or Dare

Truth or dare is always a classic party game. It’s a great way to get everyone talking and laughing, and it can be tailored to suit any group. The rules are simple – each person takes turns either answering a truth question or completing a dare. Truth questions can be anything from embarrassing childhood stories to revealing secrets about the bride-to-be. Dares can range from harmless fun like singing a silly song, to more daring tasks like a streak down the street. For a hen party, you could dare the bride-to-be to do something outrageous, or make up some cheeky dares for the whole group to complete.

Hen Party Scavenger Hunt

A hen party scavenger hunt is a great way to get everyone out and about, exploring the local area (or wherever you’re celebrating). This game can be as simple or as complicated as you like – you can set a list of items for the group to find, or give them clues to follow that will lead them to the next item on the list. As seen on https://www.gelballundercover.com.au/, you can add some spice to any game. You can split into teams and give each team a list of things to find or photograph. The first team to complete the scavenger hunt wins! To make it more fun, you could add in some forfeits for the losing team, or dare the bride-to-be to do something embarrassing.

Mr & Mrs Quiz

This is a fun game that tests how well the bride-to-be knows her future husband. You can make up your questions, or find a list of Mr & Mrs questions online. The bride-to-be must answer each question correctly to win the game. To make it more challenging, you could give her a time limit to answer each question, or set several questions she must get right to win.

Toilet Paper Wedding Dress

This is a fun activity that will have everyone in stitches! Each person must create a wedding dress out of toilet paper, using only the supplies you provide. Try to use different colors and patterns of toilet paper to create unique dresses. The bride-to-be must choose her favorite dress, and the person who made it wins a prize. The bride-to-be must then model her creation for everyone to see. This activity is great for getting everyone creative, and it’s certain to result in some hilarious photos!

Hen Party Dares

This is a fun game that can be played with any size group. You will need to write down a list of dares and put them into a jar or bowl. The bride-to-be must then choose a dare from the jar and complete it. Dares can range from harmless fun like singing a song, to more daring tasks like a streak down the street. For a hen party, you could dare the bride-to-be to do something crazy, or make up some cheeky dares for the whole group to complete. Think outside the box and have some fun with this one!

Would You Rather

This is a great game to get everyone talking. You will need to come up with a list of would you rather question, and the group must choose which option they would prefer. Questions can be anything from light-hearted and silly, to more serious topics. This is a great way to break the ice if you’re playing with a group of people who don’t know each other well. Even if you know everyone in the group, it’s still a fun way to get everyone talking and laughing.

Never Have I Ever

This is a classic party game that is sure to get everyone talking. The rules are simple – each person takes turns making a statement about something they have never done. For example, “Never have I ever been skydiving.” If anyone in the group has done the thing you’ve said, they must take a drink (or do whatever the agreed-upon punishment is). This game is a great way to get to know people, and it’s certain to result in some embarrassing stories!

Hen parties are a lot of fun and there are many activities to make them even more enjoyable. Try out some of these games and activities to add some excitement to your next hen party! Cheers!

A lot of times our brain can go on autopilot. As creatures of habit, we tend to complete the same routine on a daily basis–get up, get dressed, go to work. Then, by the time we get home, we’re usually tired we tend to zone out in front of the TV.

It’s important to keep your mind active because a well-stimulated brain not only improves your mood, but it also keeps you healthy and can reduce your risk for cognitive disorders.

Just like you keep your body healthy and active, you have to do the same for your brain. This doesn’t mean you have to do something drastic like learn a foreign language, but you should focus on a few small things you can practice regularly.

Improving your brain health doesn’t have to be complicated, there are a few easy things you can work into your daily routine to keep your brain sharp.

1. Exercise

Physical activity is important for a healthy lifestyle and exercise not only helps you physically, but it also improves your brain health at the same time. When you exercise regularly, it not only reduces your risk for Alzheimer’s disease, but it also can slow aging by 10 years.

Exercise is good for the brain because it increases blood flow, which is important because it provides oxygen and nutrients to the brain. Fitness also releases feel-good endorphins and can help create new brain cells, slowing down cognitive decline.

According to the Mayo Clinic, you should get at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity a week. Here are some specific workouts you can do to fuel your brain.

Walk or Run

Walking or taking a daily run is an easy way to incorporate physical activity into your day, that won’t take up a lot of time and doesn’t need any equipment.

Just by taking a daily walk you can improve your brain health because when you walk it increases your heart rate and causes you to breathe deeper, which improves oxygen flow to the brain.

Aerobics

Studies show that aerobic exercise can improve a person’s cognitive function and can also boost cardiovascular health.

Aerobics is a type of workout that will increase your heart rate, but not immediately give you shortness of breath so you can perform the activity for a longer period of time. Some great aerobic exercises include cycling or swimming.

Weight Training

Strength training can help both your body and your brain, and research suggests that it can also enhance a person’s executive function and memory. Combining weight training activities with some aerobic exercises can round out your fitness routine and help you stay healthy.

2. Eat Healthy

According to Medical News Today, the brain uses 20% of the body’s calories, so not only do you need to fuel your body, but you also need to fuel your brain. Certain nutrients in different foods can increase brain power by improving cognition and memory.

Eating healthy is an easy way to improve brain health by incorporating nutrient-filled foods into your daily meals. There are a few main food groups that are a great part of a brain-boosting diet.

Berries

According to Science Daily, studies show that eating blueberries, strawberries, and other types of fruit can help prevent age-related memory loss. This is because berries contain high levels of antioxidants that protect cells from damage and they also prevent inflammation and they improve mental cognition.

Nuts

When it comes to brain health, almonds, hazelnuts and walnuts have been shown to be preventive against memory loss.

Nuts support a healthy nervous system and can protect against cognitive decline and walnuts specifically also have a high concentration of DHA, which improves cognitive performance.

Vegetables

Specifically, leafy green vegetables like spinach are nutrient dense and research suggests plant-based foods may help prevent cognitive decline.

Vegetables like kale and broccoli are also rich in magnesium, which helps dilate blood vessels–increasing blood flow to the brain. Foods like these are full of nutrients and antioxidants that strengthen the brain.

3. Manage Stress

An important way to improve your brain health is by managing your daily stress by regularly practicing stress-relieving activities. Stress can interfere with cognition, attention, and memory–making you more frantic and forgetful.

Stress not only affects you mentally, but it can also have many physical effects that negatively impact your brain and can cause health problems like heart disease and other cognitive diseases. Keeping your stress in check not only helps your brain, but it will improve your overall health.

Meditate

Practicing meditation allows you to clear your mind of the daily clutter that consumes it. Regular meditation sessions can increase your concentration and attention, while also relieving symptoms of anxiety and depression. A study from UCLA also found that long-term meditation can preserve brains as they age.

Sleep

When you sleep, it gives your body and mind a chance to recharge. As you sleep, your brain cleans toxins that build up while you’re awake so that you can wake up with a clear mind. Getting a good night’s rest is vital to brain health and an adult should be getting 6 to 8 hours of sleep a night.

Find a Hobby

Picking up a hobby can be great for your brain. You can either learn something new or enhance a skill you already know. Working on a hobby will give your brain something to focus on while learning a new set of skills, it can be challenging or even relaxing.

4. Playing brain games

A great and fun way to improve your mental functions is by playing a variety of brain games. Training your brain can help increase memory, response time, and also improve logic skills. Brain games are not only helpful for your brain, but they can also be fun.

Playing brain games will increase your mental strength by stimulating your brain with new problems to solve that require a tactful response.

Puzzles

Completing a puzzle can increase the connections between brain cells and help increase short-term memory. Puzzles work both the logical left side of the brain and also the right creative side resulting in a full brain workout.

Crosswords

Working on a crossword can improve mental cognition and also work on your spelling skills. Crosswords are a classic brain game that can be done online or on paper, and if you’re feeling brave using a pen.

Sudoku

This game is a number placement game that relies on memory and can be played either on paper or online. Sudoku is great stimulation for the brain and can also be a relaxing activity to help unwind.

Get Serious About Your Brain Health

Your brain is powerful. But just like any other muscle in your body, if you don’t stimulate it, it’ll deteriorate. Use these four activities to improve your brain health and stay mentally sharp at any age!
