“Winning” – the word has a multitude of meanings.

To some, it may mean to be at the top in every sense, ahead of everyone; and to some, it may mean chasing perfection.

But what happens when you reach the “pinnacle” of Success?

How do you stay a winner when you’re already at the top, and there’s nowhere else to go? How do you maintain that winning streak that syncs your flow through life? And most importantly how do you reap the possibilities created through ‘The Winning’?

“You and your organization, are most vulnerable when you are most successful.” – Robin Sharma, The Greatness Guide

A real win is when you truly feel happy from within, and not vulnerable – Which can only happen when you can ‘Stop Worrying and Start Living.’

The art of winning lies in knowing how to build yourself to a level where you are capable of giving what you have gained to others. This translates to using the knowledge, experience, skills, or wealth you’ve gained to create better opportunities for others.

You may question the need to create better opportunities for others.

After all, when the win is yours, the opportunities should also be for you!

So why give your gains to others?

Two friends were playing in a garden. One of them told the other about his collection of marbles. The other responded by telling the first about some homemade sweets in his possession.

The marble owner immediately suggested to the sweet owner that there be an exchange – marbles for sweets. The sweet owner agreed.

The sweet owner went and packed all the sweets he had in a box and returned. Meanwhile, the marble owner kept some of the beautiful and bigger marbles at home and brought the remaining marbles for his friend.

Both the friends exchanged their possessions and went back home.

However, that night, the sweet owner, who lost his sweets to win marbles slept peacefully. But the marble owner, who had the homemade sweets, as well as the beautiful and bigger marbles still in his possession, kept thinking about the exchange.

He was wondering whether his friend had hidden some sweets like him. The whole night he kept thinking about it and lost sleep.

To me, the winner in this situation, and others is the one who got a good night’s sleep with a clear conscience. Moreover, sleep is what keeps us charged and helps us win more battles in life.

And if that statement sounds naïve and vague, then maybe these pointers will help illuminate the ‘Art of Winning’ further:

The Power of Thought

You master the art of winning when you realize the power of your thoughts. It is however very difficult to manage thoughts, as they happen at the subtler level, therefore mind management becomes even more crucial. A mind is an amazing machine that can transform itself into any form per its dominant thought process.

Take for example how you embark on a new job search. First, you realize you do not like what you’re currently doing, followed almost immediately by the consideration that you could be doing something you like better instead. Continuing along these lines, you become convinced that you do need to find a new job, and then you begin an active search.

Thoughts are powerful. Through regular meditation, you gradually learn to identify the relationship between thoughts and behavior. It helps in harnessing the power of your thoughts and allows you to grow into a better version of yourself.

Living in Harmony

There is an inexplicable thrill to winning, but it also brings along the fear of losing, and the result is your mind losing the peace.

If you only think of winning in terms of defeating others, you may never be able to create harmony around you. But when you look at winning as a way to share your abundance, you can create an environment of harmony around.

Think like a king, when you define “winning.” In ancient Hindu scriptures, kings were defined as compassionate and exalted. They were conceived as being above the competition, and thus beyond nominal ideas of winning.

When you are beyond competition, there is no conflict. There is harmony around.

So being compassionate and living in harmony is the second step towards learning the art of winning.

Finding Your Rhythm

Apart from being compassionate, the other most important rule of harmony is finding your rhythm, which could easily translate to being confident in yourself.

When you are a lover of wisdom, you automatically generate a feeling of confidence, strength, and awareness.

Learning the art of winning is like American New Thought leader and teacher Christian D. Larson says:

“To give so much time to improving yourself that you have no time to criticize others.”

Being Before the Happening

A real victory cannot be savored unless you’ve consumed the bitter taste of defeat. And this can only happen when you are centered.

You may feel overjoyed after winning a tournament or getting a big project, but that kind of joy may be short-lived if you lose focus. There is a singular kind of joy in being involved in events and activities and another kind of joy in solitary repose.

If you can comprehend the space of being where both yes and no can simultaneously be right, you are privy to a whole new dimension of infinite possibilities.

The true art of winning is when you are awake and aware of this truth.

The art of winning is a very personal thing. For some, it’s about the pursuit of happiness and finding joy in every moment; for others, success means following their passions to create something that has never been done before. There are as many ways to win in life, as people are living on this planet—but what we can all agree on is that when you find your rhythm and learn how-to live-in harmony with yourself, you will have won against any odds.

We might not realise it, but we are bombarded with self improvement messages on a daily basis. From make up and hair adverts on TV, through to weight loss stories and fitness plans on the covers of magazines, we are constantly told we are not good enough. Yet if we buy this particular product or follow that particular celebrity, we could be. And what happens is that these subtle subliminal messages, rather than making us feel good about ourselves, actually have the complete opposite effect. Which sees us about as far removed from self improvement as you can possibly get.

So, what we want to focus on today is not necessarily how you can improve yourself, because honestly, we think you’re pretty awesome as you are, but instead to concentrate on showing you some ways to help build up your self esteem in order for you to believe it too!

Know Yourself

Before we can self improve we really need to know what it is exactly we want to improve, or to look at it another way – to address some of the things we’re not happy with in our lives. It’s time to start making some lists!

Grab yourself a large sheet of paper and divide it up into different category blocks – relationship, career, health, money, fitness, aspirations etc. Jot down all the things that aren’t quite working out for you, the things that you like about your current situation, as well as how you would like it to be in an ideal world.

The very act of ‘brain dumping’ can be incredibly cathartic and helps to clarify and make sense of things. It allows you to make positive and actionable steps, rather than having all of those thoughts swirling around in your head.

Keep Learning

School days may seem like an absolute lifetime ago, but that doesn’t mean we ever need to stop learning. Indeed, continued learning throughout our lives can help give us purpose and encourage a growth mindset. If you’re unsure where to start you can try going for one of the many distance learning courses online. These offer a variety of different courses; anything from healthcare and nutrition, through to journalism, animal care and IT courses; there is something to suit all interests.

Alternatively, why not take up a new hobby, join a sports club, learn a new language, read a new book about a subject you know nothing about. Absolutely anything that enriches your mind and motivates you in some way is such a positive step in helping you to feel good about yourself.

Be Your Own Cheerleader

I’ll bet you dish out compliments to your friends all the time, right? But how often do you give yourself those same words of praise? I think we all know the answer to that one!

I’m not going to lie, singing your own praises and being your own cheerleader is far from easy. But if we constantly focus on the negatives and think unkindly towards ourselves, this can get in the way of so many of those life goals you are hoping to achieve.

One thing that can help you to change the way you speak to yourself is setting yourself some daily check in habits.

Keep some positive affirmation cards by the side of your bed and read one every morning.

Make sure the first thing you do when you look in the mirror is smile at yourself.

At the end of each day write down at least one thing you have achieved, are proud of, that made you happy that day.

Take control of your inner critic, show yourself some self compassion, and start blowing your own trumpet a bit.

Step Out Of Your Comfort Zone

Sometimes doing something that scares the living daylights out of you is the one thing that gives you the biggest sense of achievement, so pull up those big girl pants and give it a go.

OK, OK so maybe don’t rush out and sign yourself up to a skydiving session just yet, after all some of us do have genuine phobias, but how about doing something that is completely out of character, that gets your tummy filled with butterflies, makes your heart beat faster, makes you feel alive!

The secret to building self confidence is to take that giant step out of your comfort zone and experience the things that make you feel this way. Sure it’s scary, and no it’s not easy, but I’ll tell you something for nothing, it’s incredibly rewarding and will make you feel completely empowered once you’ve done it.

Stop Procrastinating And Just Do It!

And finally, these action points are all well and good, but they’ll only work if you get on out there and actually do them. So, stop procrastinating, stop making excuses, stop thinking about the what if’s and just do it.

Managing stress and anxiety is imperative if you want to remain healthy. However, it is not always easy to manage stress. You have to make a conscious effort to make the right choices every day.

You also have to have a system in place to manage your stress which often comes with anxiety. Once you have a systematic approach to dealing with high levels of stress you will find that your life improves dramatically.

Make Small Fitness Goals

Exercise is a big stress buster. However, it can be difficult to exercise consistently. If you set small goals you are more likely to stay healthy. Try exercising for 10 to 15 minutes a day in the beginning. It is better if they do this every day than only exercising once per week.

Make sure that you enjoy your exercise. For exercise to be effective it does not have to be boring or make you miserable. If you find that the exercise activity that you are doing is making you feel this way you need to change it because it will not motivate you to continue.

Take Control Of Your Thoughts

People who have anxiety often imagine the worst that could happen in any given situation. This is why it is so essential that you take control of your thoughts. You need to start making positive affirmations that counteract the way you feel.

Take control of your thoughts and verbally speak in a positive way. Train your mind to think positively and reduce anxiety. It can be difficult at first but once you get into a pattern of rethinking negative scenarios in your head your anxiety will decrease.

Get Enough Sleep

Many people who have anxiety also have insomnia. The inability to sleep because you are too anxious about things you cannot control can have a negative impact on your health.

Not only will you increase your blood pressure, and heart rate but you will be too tired to function. Often people with anxiety need to be prescribed sleeping pills.

However, before you go this route it is best to try natural alternatives. Try to keep off your cell phone and other devices before you go to bed.

Chamomile tea and milk are well known for their ability to relax you and prepare the body for sleep. You can also try CBD oils, these are not intoxicating and they can relax you enough to give you a good night’s sleep. You can purchase CBD oil at a CBD shop or online.

Avoid Sweets

When you are anxious it can be comforting to reach for a tub of ice cream or some cookies. However, research is now showing that when you have too much sugar, it can make your anxiety worse.

If you are feeling anxious the best thing you can do is drink water or foods that contain protein. This will energize your body and help reduce your feelings of anxiety.

Stay Healthy

Reducing anxiety and staying healthy is very important. If you’re not careful anxiety can overtake your life and make it difficult for you to function normally.

This can cause problems for you at your job or in school. Use the tips that have been given here to reduce your anxiety and stay healthy.

We all want to add value to our homes, not just as a home investment for potential resale but also to enhance our own joy of living in a beautiful home. Making home improvements is one of the best methods of investing in the value of your house.

DIY Home Improvement

If you can carry out your own house improvements without paying for a tradesperson, all the investment will go into your home.

Here are a few simple home improvements you can make.

Revamp Your Radiators

Radiators are no longer simply a functional appliance in your home. You can now buy radiators in a wide variety of sizes, styles and colours. For example, vertical radiators make a huge style statement as well as saving space in awkward room layouts. Heated towel rails add luxury to a bathroom.

You can buy radiator paint if you want to transform an existing radiator, or you could purchase a new radiator from a radiator specialist, such as Stelrad Radiators. Installing a radiator is easier than you think, and you’ll find videos online to support any installation instructions that come with the radiator.

Freshen Up Your Kitchen Cabinets

A whole kitchen overhaul isn’t always necessary. If the carcasses of your kitchen cabinets are sound, then updating the doors is all you need to do. The simplest task is to buy new door handles or knobs. Or you can remove the doors, sand them down and paint them in a fresh, on trend colour. There are also companies that will just provide new cabinet doors so all you need to do is take down the old and add the new.

Add Contemporary Coving

Often overlooked, coving can define the style of a room. The absence of coving can leave a room feeling incomplete. Adding period-appropriate coving to a Victorian or Georgian home, for example, can increase the authenticity of the property. Modern coving can add the finishing touch to the latest interior design. Adhering coving is a simple DIY task if you are confident cutting mitre corners.

Professional Home Improvements

There are some home improvements that require a higher set of skills. If simple DIY is where you draw the line, you will need to get a professional tradesperson to carry out the following home improvements.

Add A Conservatory

A conservatory adds another reception room to your home. You will get to enjoy the light and extended living space that a conservatory provides. Plus, if you ever put your house on the market, you can list an extra living room which will appeal to more potential purchasers and add to the asking price.

Make sure to balance out what you lose in garden space with what you gain in living space. Even a small conservatory will add value with a well thought out design.

Level Up Your Loft

A loft which is insulated, boarded and has a fitted ladder becomes an appealing storage space. Life is made much easier when Christmas decorations, suitcases and those old children’ toys you can’t bear to part with have an easily accessible, organised area in which to be stored safely.

Going a few steps further and actually converting your loft is one of the home improvements which adds the most value to a property. It maximises space in a home and can accommodate a growing family – all beneficial to you and to potential purchasers.

Install Bifold Doors

Bifold doors have become a hot trend in home design in the last decade. Opening up a room to the outdoors creates a feeling of space and calm. They are a sizeable investment and require a specialist installation, but as a home improvement bifold doors add significant value to your home as well as enhancing your lifestyle.

After all, isn’t that what all home improvements should do?

It’s time to fall in love with the word no. Your boundaries depend on it. As the saying goes, “Just say no.” Sounds so easy right?! No – one word, two letters, and a complete sentence. People regurgitate this phrase near and far, implying it’s able to be said with complete ease. Many write advice columns and social media posts on boundaries and you guessed it…learning to “say no” is at the top of the list for how to uphold boundaries. I too have written an article on boundaries and included similar guidance, but the truth is that the simplest advice is almost always easier said than done.

Let’s break it down. When you say “yes” to someone’s request, your time, energy, resources etc. are now committed to someone or something else. While the person asking has been freed from their desires, you have been tethered. As life is ever-evolving, there will always be someone or something that needs your time. So, in order to stay true to your wants, dreams and goals, there will come points in time where you will need to say no. The challenge when you choose to say no though is that it is almost always met with a barrage of questioning – pinning you into a corner of explanation. The irony is that no is a complete sentence and the reality is that no does not require an explanation.

One of the first questions someone is likely to ask once they have been on the receiving end of a “no” is “why?” Why won’t you help them? Why would you refuse them? This is typically the time that emotions kick in as you are triggered from the accusatory questions. You start to question whether or not you are being selfish and if you really should have said no. You’re now getting defensive, feeling obligated to justify and explain your response, knowing deep down it is the best thing for you.

“When you say yes to others, make sure you are not saying no to yourself.” – Paulo Coelho

You try to walk the fine line of acceptable behavior for the dynamic of the situation, trying to not hurt anyone’s feelings and appearing not to be selfish. However, the reality is this – no does not have to be a negotiation. It can be a ruling. How you choose to engage after you have said no determines which category the “no” falls into.

To bolster your resolve in remaining true to your “no”, consider these steps:

Remind yourself it’s not about you. The person asking the question is looking to shift the responsibility to you instead of accepting an answer that was contrary to what they wanted. At the end of the day – both parties are responsible for their decisions – and decisions are never guaranteed.

The first “no” is the hardest no. When you start to draw boundaries and tell people no, naturally they are going to be caught off guard. After all, they are used to you being a “yes” person. Give them grace to observe and accept your new more structured stance which includes saying no to things. While you may be concerned this could negatively impact your relationship with them, history has shown that boundaries are vital in establishing respect. So, on the contrary, this may strengthen your relationship.

Be prepared for the firing squad of questions. If you are going to say no, a fair expectation is to presume that your no will be questioned. Remember that there is no reason to get emotional. You can simply hear the other person out and let them know you carefully considered their request but that was the healthy decision for you. Period. Do not be baited into a lengthy explanation. Remember – it is not a negotiation.

In short, your goals are worth holding space for which requires the use of “no” from time to time. You can’t do everything for everyone else and still expect to have enough time to dedicate to your goals. You need to be energized and centered in pursuit of your life. So you need to make sure your energy is moving forward and in alignment with your vision, and not hung up on bringing someone else’s vision to life.
