Dancing is a universal form of expression and communication used by humans for centuries. Various forms of dance are part of several cultures, societies or ceremonies. Dance has numerous forms, each with its movements and expressions that vary from one another. There is a form of dance for every age and ability ranging from elaborate classical dancing to just grooving to the music.

Dancing has countless physical and psychological benefits. There is a reason people like to dance away the night when they are having a hard time at college or work. This physical activity also appeals to people who might find regular workouts hard, typical and boring.

Dancing has been recommended as an alternate treatment modality by physicians worldwide for quite some time. As a result, it has become a known remedy to prevent and treat many physical and psychological conditions. In this article, we try to explore the various dance forms and how we can use them to lose weight.

Dancing to Combat Physical Inactivity

Regular physical activity is proven to help prevent and manage chronic diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and several cancers. It also helps prevent hypertension, maintains healthy body weight, and improves mental health, quality of life and well-being.

Despite the numerous benefits, the levels of physical inactivity are very high globally. According to WHO, current global estimates show that one in four adults and 81% of adolescents do not do enough physical activity. Unfortunately, as the countries develop further, the levels of inactivity keep increasing.

The comfort and ease of modern lives have led to growing sedentary behaviours and lifestyles. Increased levels of physical inactivity negatively impact health and quality of life. Also, the convenience of having everything at your fingertips has led many of us to let go of the necessary amounts of exercise our body needs to function correctly.

Dancing is one of the alternate modes of exercise, and you can use it as a way to stay fit. It is for people of all ages, shapes and sizes. According to research, undertaking structured dance of any genre is equally and occasionally more effective than other types of exercise.

Benefits of Dancing

Dancing has a wide range of positive outcomes on physical and mental health. It improves the condition of the heart and lungs and increases muscular strength, endurance and motor fitness. It also increases stamina and balance. Dancers are also reportedly more flexible than their non-dancer counterparts. If you have a friend who used to be a dancer, you will notice that performing some yoga poses is much easier for them compared to you. It also helps build stronger bones, which correlates to a lower chance of osteoporosis.

There is increased coordination and improved balance, along with greater spatial awareness. Finally, you will notice that letting go of your self-consciousness is easier once you start dancing. That is because dancing also enhances self-confidence and social skills.

Research indicates that dance as a participation-based physical exercise reduces anxiety and depression by increasing dopamine and serotonin levels. These are feel-good hormones that help you feel good after the session.

Dancing to Lose Weight

Losing weight can only be achieved by being in a calorie deficit. Therefore, the number of calories burnt should be greater than the number consumed. Most forms of dancing are a form of aerobic exercises or what is known as cardio. In general, faster dance forms like hip hop and jazz will burn more calories than slow dances like contemporary dancing.

Zumba

Zumba is a dance that involves Cardio and Latin-inspired dance. There is no right or wrong way to do Zumba. The motto of Zumba is “Ditch the workout, join the party” and emphasises moving to the beat of the music. The music combines the dance styles of cumbia, salsa, merengue, mambo, flamenco, chachacha, reggaeton, soca, samba, hip hop music, axé music, and tango.

A study indicates that Zumba burns around 9.5 Kcal/min of energy. The typical session of Zumba lasts for about 40 minutes and averages around 369 Kcal of energy expenditure. The energy burned will also depend on the intensity of the workout. Thus, regular participation in Zumba can positively affect body composition and aid in weight loss as long as you mind your calories. It also shows some degree of positive effects on strength and flexibility.

Zumba offers many different options and is generally considered safe for individuals of every age. However, trainers specifically aim some classes at elderly individuals as the courses for younger people tend to be more high-intensity. According to a study, besides its high calorie-burning benefit, Zumba can also help lower the risk of heart disease. Research also shows its effects on reducing blood pressure. In addition, it also positively influences your lipid profile as it decreases the bad cholesterol and increases good cholesterol.

Freestyle Dancing

Freestyle is a way of dancing in which the dancer improvises their moves on the spot as they dance instead of having them planned. It is a free and raw dance form where you express yourself with your entire body. It can be freeing and helps unwind after a long work day. You can include various basic movements of structured exercises like squats to work your body more. As long as you are moving your body, you are burning calories. However, restrict yourself from trying extreme moves that are incompatible with the level of your fitness. It may lead to injuries and other problems.

Hip Hop Dancing

Hip hop is a range of street dance styles, including breaking, locking and popping. It has evolved along with hip-hop music and has become a part of hip-hop culture. It is perfect for every age group and can be incredibly vigorous. Furthermore, it is a fast dancing form and burns many more calories when compared to other dance forms. Hip-hop is an entertaining dance form. You can practise it by attending studio sessions or online classes. In addition, it is highly intensive, so one needs to be careful and do proper warm-up exercises beforehand.

Pole Dancing

Pole dancing concentrates around a pole and focuses on acrobatics and dancing. As per ACSM guidelines, you can classify an advanced-level 60-minute pole dancing class as a moderate-intensity cardiorespiratory exercise. When completed for ≥30 minutes, ≥5 days a week (total ≥150 minutes) satisfies the recommended level of activity for improved health and cardiorespiratory fitness. Pole dancing builds upper body and core strength. It also helps in building muscular endurance and coordination. You can use pole dancing as both an aerobic and anaerobic workout. It is also an empowering dance form for women.

Tap Dancing

Tap dance is a form of dance characterised by using the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion. They use a special kind of shoes that produce metallic sounds. It helps in building lower body strength and coordination. However, the number of calories lost is lesser than in other dance forms. Nevertheless, you can still use this form of dancing to lose weight if you enjoy it, as the love for the form will motivate you to practice it daily.

Ballroom Dancing

Ballroom dancing has been considered a sport more than a dance form due to the immense amounts of stamina required for this dance form. You do this in pairs, with one individual leading while the other follows. It takes high levels of spatial awareness and allows you to develop the same. It also requires proper posture; practising this dance form can help you maintain a good posture. You can try out ballroom dancing if you have a desk job and tend to sit in front of a screen all day.

Ballroom dancing includes four significant styles: waltz, tango, foxtrot and quickstep. Waltz is the most traditional type of ballroom dancing which is better for beginners as this style forms the base for ballroom dancing. Tango is an animated version with a lot of expressions and vibrant music. On the other hand, quickstep is the faster variation which requires efficient and neat movements. It is quite an advanced dance form.

Ballroom dancing is an excellent workout as it increases stamina, flexibility and posture. In addition, you can join beginner classes and slowly build up your fitness level.

Dance Workouts

Dance Workouts have become incredibly popular with various fitness channels. These dance workouts are primarily cardio-based exercises carefully choreographed to have a flow. They include various forms of structured body exercises like squats and jumps. Dance workouts increase flexibility and allow better coordination. They are fun, and you can do them in the comfort of your home. These dance videos have a duration ranging from 10 to 30 minutes. Choose videos based on the intensity level required and your mood. Therefore, this is the perfect choice if you enjoy the privacy of your home and don’t like to join classes where you have to interact with people.

The HealthifyMe Note

All forms of dancing can help you stay fit. Even classical Indian forms like Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Mohiniyattam and Odissi are extremely good for staying graceful and fit. Also, the beauty of these dance forms is that you keep learning emotionally satisfying skills with practice. On the other hand, pop forms are essential to de-stress and stay in shape. So, if you are not into gymming, pick up a form that appeals to you and see your body changing.

Important Points to Consider Before You Start

If you are planning to lose weight by dancing, there are a few things you need to keep in mind.

Understand Your Fitness Level

First things first, it is crucial to understand the fitness level of your body. Jumping into intense dances from the get-go can cause injuries. According to studies, injuries are extremely common in dancers. It is often difficult for individuals without prior experience to try ballet or traditional dance forms. Zumba is a versatile dance form that caters to individuals of every fitness level. Dance Workouts are also divided into light, moderate and intense. So choose accordingly to avoid injuries.

Understand Your Goals

Each form of dance allows change in body composition and can help reduce weight. However, few dance forms help you in burning more calories than others. For example, hip-hop can help you burn more calories than dance workouts. Some dances have bonus advantages. For example, ballet enables you to gain balance, while Zumba allows flexibility. Latin dances are very useful for gaining spatial awareness. Depending on your goals, go for the dance form you like.

Stretch Before You Dance

Dynamic stretching or warming up is a must before dancing. Never do static stretching before dancing. It reduces the heart rate and decreases the intensity threshold you can reach. Dynamic stretching is a stretch that is an active movement as a result of muscle contraction—for example, circling the ankle or shoulders or controlled leg and arm swings. Lighter versions of other exercises are also acceptable for warming up.

How Much Time Should You Dance to Lose Weight?

The amount of calories burnt through dancing depends on the intensity and style. It also depends on the weight of the person. Therefore, the greater the person’s weight, the more calories are burnt. The average person will burn 300-800 calories per hour while dancing.

The formula used for calculating the number of calories burnt per minute is

Calories burned per minute = (MET x body weight in Kg x 3.5) ÷ 200

“MET” measures the energy cost of physical activity for a particular period.

Below are the number of calories burnt per hour of dancing for different dance forms.

Ballroom, slow: 215 calories

Tap Dance: 344 calories

Aerobic dance, low impact: 358 calories

Aerobic, general: 523 calories

Freestyle Dancing: 558 calories

Kathak: 300-400 calories

Bharatnatyam: 400-500 calories

Please note these are an approximation based on an hour-long session.

The HealthifyMe Note

Dancing is a creative form of self-expression. It works at several levels. Syncing your movements with rhythm and music enhances coordination and agility. It improves your lungs and heart health. Dancing strengthens muscle tone and helps in weight management.

Summary

Dancing is an excellent way to lose weight. It can be helpful for individuals who find routine workouts boring. It is a perfect way to introduce physical activity to people with a sedentary lifestyle. Research has proven that dance routines are as effective as workout routines for losing weight. Dancing is also suitable for individuals of all ages and abilities. It has also been proven to affect cardiovascular and mental health significantly. It is a good option for de-stressing. Dancing strengthens muscle tone and helps in weight management.

You should choose the form of dancing based on interest and physical capability. For example, it is difficult for a person with no physical training to jump into ballet, one of the most complex forms of dance. It is also essential to decide on the duration of your sessions based on your goals, as different forms burn different levels of calories. You can also mix and match the forms. For instance, you can alternate between Zumba and freestyle. To conclude, dancing is an excellent method of losing weight while having fun.

Most people hate being single.

But there are some benefits to it, too.

For example, you get to spend more time with yourself.

And that can be a good thing because it allows you to explore your interests and figure out who you are without the distractions of a partner.

Plus, when you’re single, you can do whatever you want, whenever you want, without having to consult anyone else or compromise.

So take a little time and start working on being in a relationship with yourself.

Why Would You Take Yourself on A Date?

Unfortunately, many people don’t know how to take advantage of their solo status and end up feeling bored, lonely, and purposeless.

If that sounds like you, it’s time to start taking yourself on dates.

Yes, that’s right: dates. Just because you’re not in a relationship doesn’t mean you can’t treat yourself to the occasional romantic outing.

Treating yourself when you’re single is even more valuable because it helps you feel good about yourself and keeps you from getting too caught up in the dating game.

You might not want to be in a relationship for many reasons.

Maybe you just got out of one and are not ready to jump in again. Or perhaps you’ve been single for a while and are starting to feel a little antsy.

Perhaps you’re tired of going to the same old places and doing the same things yourself.

Whatever the case, taking yourself on a date can be a great way to break out of your routine, try something new, and just have some fun. And who knows? You might even meet someone interesting along the way.

The Benefits of Being in A Relationship With Myself

1. More Confidence

There are plenty of benefits that come with dating yourself. For one, it can help you feel more confident and self-assured.

When you’re used to spending your time alone, going out on a date—even if it’s just with yourself—can make you feel valuable and special.

2. Increased Self-Awareness

It can also help you learn more about yourself. Letting other people shape your interests and opinions is easy when you’re constantly around others.

But when you’re by yourself, you’re more likely to think for yourself and develop your own point of view.

Plus, when you’re taking yourself on dates, you have the opportunity to try new things that you might not normally do. It can help you learn more about your likes and dislikes and figure out what you’re looking for in a partner.

3. Willingness to Push Past Your Comfort Zone

Another great benefit of dating yourself is getting out of your comfort zone. Going out solo can be daunting if you’re used to being in a relationship.

But it’s also an upward call to push yourself, try something new, and make new friends.

4. Feeling More Liberated

When you date yourself, you can be completely honest with yourself.

You don’t have to worry about whether or not the person you’re talking to will like what you have to say because there’s no one around.

It can be liberating and help you figure out who you are and what you want in life.

15 Fun Things to Do on A Self-Date

Now that you know the benefits of dating yourself, let’s look at how to take yourself on a date and enjoy it.

1. Plan a staycation at home.

A staycation is a vacation where you stay home and relax. You can either stay in your home or rent a place for the week. It’s a great option if you’re on a budget or don’t have time to travel.

You can do a variety of things on a staycation, from watching TV and reading books to taking day trips to local attractions. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

• Stay in your pajamas all day and relax in front of the TV or read a good book.

• Catch up on your Netflix queue.

• Make a fort out of blankets and pillows and spend the day inside it.

• Cook all your favorite meals and eat them in front of the TV.

• Apply a face mask and enjoy some self-care.

2. Have a picnic in the park.

One of the best things about summer is having picnics in the park. This is a great activity to do by yourself or with friends. All you need is a blanket, food, and a good book.

If you’re picnicking alone, you can bring your favorite comfort foods and snacks. But if you’re picnicking with friends, you can get a little more creative and make a whole meal.

3. Cook your favorite meal and eat it in bed.

One of the best things about being single is that you can do whatever you want, whenever you want. So why not take advantage of that and make your favorite meal? You can either cook it yourself or order it in.

And there’s no need to eat at the kitchen table like a grown-up. You can bring your food to bed and have a picnic there. Just make sure you’re ready for the inevitable food coma that will follow.

4. Go to a movie by yourself.

There’s nothing quite like going to the movies by yourself. You can choose whatever movie you want to see, and you don’t have to worry about anyone else’s opinion.

And you don’t have to worry about your date hogging the armrest or the popcorn.

5. Visit a bookstore or café.

If you’re a fan of books, then visiting a bookstore is the perfect activity for a self-date. You can browse the shelves at your own pace and find new books to read.

And if you get hungry, most bookstores have cafes where you can grab a bite to eat.

Going to a concert without a companion can be uncomfortable, but view it as a time to meet new people if you put yourself out there.

There’s something about music that just brings people together, so don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation with the person next to you. If anything, you can talk all about the band you’re there to see!

9. Go stargazing.

Stargazing helps you put your life in perspective as you realize there are 200 billion trillion stars in the universe.

Find an open area away from city lights, bring a blanket, and see how many stars you can count. Stargazing is a peaceful way to clear your mind and focus on the present moment.

10. Go on a road trip.

One of the best things about being single is picking up and going whenever you want. So why not take advantage of that and go on a road trip?

You can explore new places and see things you wouldn’t have seen otherwise.

Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community. It’s also a way to meet like-minded, new friends and develop empathy and compassion for those in need.

It may not seem like the most fun date to go on alone, but it will be one of the most rewarding.

12. Go to a museum.

One of the best places to take yourself on a date is a museum. You don’t need anyone else lurking around you as you immerse yourself in art, history, and culture. Museum visits allow you to explore your interests and expand your knowledge.

13. Watch a movie or TV series marathon.

There’s nothing like spending a lazy day in bed or on the couch watching your favorite movies or TV shows.

If you want to be a little productive at the same time, work on an easy craft project or give yourself a mani-pedi while you watch.

14. Go camping in your backyard.

One of the best things about being single is the freedom to do what you want, whenever you want. So why not take advantage of that and go camping in your backyard?

Get away from it all, immerse yourself in nature, and appreciate the world around you. Some things you can do on your backyard campout include:

Read your new book

Roast marshmallows and make s’mores

Stargaze

Journal

Listen to music/play an instrument

15. Learn a new skill.

One of the best things about being single is having the time to learn new things. So why not take advantage of that and learn a new skill?

You can expand your horizons and find new things to develop a passion. Some ideas on skills you could take up include:

Learn a language

Take up crafting

Learn to make craft cocktails

Cook a gourmet meal

Learn an instrument

Take care of a pet

Plant a garden

There’s nothing wrong with being single. It can be a positive way to focus on your happiness and independence.

Next time you’re feeling down, take yourself on a date and enjoy your own company. You may find it’s the best relationship you’ve ever had.

Hen parties are a great way to celebrate the upcoming nuptials of a friend or loved one. They are often filled with fun and excitement, as well as a few cheeky activities! If you’re looking for some ideas to add some spice to your hen party planning, look no further! In this blog post, we will discuss some fun activities that will get everyone in the party spirit. So grab your closest girlfriends and get ready for an unforgettable night!

Truth Or Dare

Truth or dare is always a classic party game. It’s a great way to get everyone talking and laughing, and it can be tailored to suit any group. The rules are simple – each person takes turns either answering a truth question or completing a dare. Truth questions can be anything from embarrassing childhood stories to revealing secrets about the bride-to-be. Dares can range from harmless fun like singing a silly song, to more daring tasks like a streak down the street. For a hen party, you could dare the bride-to-be to do something outrageous, or make up some cheeky dares for the whole group to complete.

Hen Party Scavenger Hunt

A hen party scavenger hunt is a great way to get everyone out and about, exploring the local area (or wherever you’re celebrating). This game can be as simple or as complicated as you like – you can set a list of items for the group to find, or give them clues to follow that will lead them to the next item on the list. As seen on https://www.gelballundercover.com.au/, you can add some spice to any game. You can split into teams and give each team a list of things to find or photograph. The first team to complete the scavenger hunt wins! To make it more fun, you could add in some forfeits for the losing team, or dare the bride-to-be to do something embarrassing.

Mr & Mrs Quiz

This is a fun game that tests how well the bride-to-be knows her future husband. You can make up your questions, or find a list of Mr & Mrs questions online. The bride-to-be must answer each question correctly to win the game. To make it more challenging, you could give her a time limit to answer each question, or set several questions she must get right to win.

Toilet Paper Wedding Dress

This is a fun activity that will have everyone in stitches! Each person must create a wedding dress out of toilet paper, using only the supplies you provide. Try to use different colors and patterns of toilet paper to create unique dresses. The bride-to-be must choose her favorite dress, and the person who made it wins a prize. The bride-to-be must then model her creation for everyone to see. This activity is great for getting everyone creative, and it’s certain to result in some hilarious photos!

Hen Party Dares

This is a fun game that can be played with any size group. You will need to write down a list of dares and put them into a jar or bowl. The bride-to-be must then choose a dare from the jar and complete it. Dares can range from harmless fun like singing a song, to more daring tasks like a streak down the street. For a hen party, you could dare the bride-to-be to do something crazy, or make up some cheeky dares for the whole group to complete. Think outside the box and have some fun with this one!

Would You Rather

This is a great game to get everyone talking. You will need to come up with a list of would you rather question, and the group must choose which option they would prefer. Questions can be anything from light-hearted and silly, to more serious topics. This is a great way to break the ice if you’re playing with a group of people who don’t know each other well. Even if you know everyone in the group, it’s still a fun way to get everyone talking and laughing.

Never Have I Ever

This is a classic party game that is sure to get everyone talking. The rules are simple – each person takes turns making a statement about something they have never done. For example, “Never have I ever been skydiving.” If anyone in the group has done the thing you’ve said, they must take a drink (or do whatever the agreed-upon punishment is). This game is a great way to get to know people, and it’s certain to result in some embarrassing stories!

Hen parties are a lot of fun and there are many activities to make them even more enjoyable. Try out some of these games and activities to add some excitement to your next hen party! Cheers!

Shorter days during the latter half of the year can cause seasonal depression due to the lack of sunlight. If you experience seasonal affective disorder, consider taking up one of these new hobbies to keep your mind occupied and stay out of a rut.

1. Write Creatively

Whether you want to journal your thoughts every day or write a series of short stories, putting your pen to paper or fingers on the keyboard could help you out. Many people channel their emotions through their writing, and it could help you constructively work through yours. Not everything has to be good — some people just enjoy getting their thoughts and stories out.

Writing fiction is an excellent way to escape reality for a moment and craft a world of your design. National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo for short, challenges participants to write a whole novel during the busy month of November. Because the event encourages you to leave your self-criticism in October, you can freely write without issue. It might take some getting used to, but if you’re up for a challenge that will keep your late fall exciting, NaNoWriMo is the way to go.

2. Take A Class

Learning something might be just what you need to keep your brain active through the fog of depression. New challenges train your brain to do or look at something in a new way. Whether you choose to learn about the history of your state or the different kinds of birds that live around you, you’ll be challenging your mind and keeping it busy during tough times.

3. Play On A Sports Team

Sports aren’t prevalent in the winter. Still, you can find a local league to participate in. Building social connections through sports can help lessen the symptoms of depression. Getting some extra exercise can also boost your mood and leave you feeling happier. You’ll make new friends and indulge in a hobby you love — and maybe learn something new at the same time.

4. Volunteer Somewhere

Volunteering allows you to give back to your community. The feeling of doing something good for others can make a difference in your life, whether you spend your time at a soup kitchen or animal shelter.

Some days, depression will leave you feeling like you can’t climb out of bed. If you often feel that way, you can volunteer through your phone. Some apps allow you to give back to your community and assist others over the Internet.

5. Learn New Recipes

Seasonal affective disorder is most prevalent in fall and winter, which is also a perfect time to practice your baking skills. You can learn to fix an array of desserts that will impress your friends and family over the holidays, or you can teach yourself how to make healthier meals with the root vegetables available this time of year.

You might find it more fun to take a cooking class with someone you know. If you learn better independently, consider trying the recipe on your own first, then teaching it to a friend or family member to foster a bond and keep you social. Food unites people, and once you have a few recipes under your belt, others will want to learn from you.

Keep Your Spirits Up However You Can

Depression isn’t easy to battle through. As the months go on and the skies get darker, it can be challenging to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Just remember that seasonal depression doesn’t last forever. You can lessen some of the symptoms you feel by trying a new hobby that will make the dark days a bit brighter.

Are you searching for some hobbies for women that you can enjoy?

If so, you’re doing your mental and physical health a big favor.

We spend an average of about 23 hours a week on email, texting and social media.

That’s a full day on your digital devices doing things that are often mindless or mind-numbing — not to mention the sedentary nature of using these devices.

What if you spent your free time pursuing your favorite hobbies rather than surfing the net?

There are so many benefits to having an actual, real-world hobby.

Obviously, any physical or athletic hobby is going to make you stronger, more fit, and healthier in general.

But hobbies have many mental and emotional benefits as well.

When you perform your hobby, you’re in that state of “flow” when time disappears, and you’re completely present with the activity.

This flow state has been shown to reduce stress and provide a sense of well-being and happiness.

Also, any hobby that involves some level of challenge or concentration will improve your mental strength.

This is particularly important as we age, because the more mentally active we remain, the less prone we are to mental decline and dementia.

That’s why we’ve included many hobbies for women over 50.

If you don’t have a hobby now, or if you haven’t practiced it in a long time, this list of ideas for fun and engaging hobbies will help you choose the ones that suit you best.

We updated this list of 60 hobbies for women.

Fun Hobbies for Women

1. Traveling to New Places

Just behind reading, traveling is one of my favorite hobbies. I LOVE visiting new places (3 weeks in Colorado in 2017) and having adventures that are memorable and fun. Travel doesn’t have to cost a lot of money.

If you’d like to learn how to cook eggs, or want to learn some different techniques, let’s get crackin’!

We’re here to share easy tips to help culinary beginners take each egg dish to the next level.

Quick-cooking eggs are the perfect protein source to start your day in a sunny way.

Everyone has an opinion on how to cook eggs, but at the end of the day, a “perfect” egg is one that’s cooked the way you like it.

Below, Holly McKee-Clark, culinary specialist for Beachbody, shares her favorite tips for how to cook eggs in five different, delicious ways.

1. How to Cook Fried Eggs

Fried eggs are a tantalizing topper for avocado toast, burgers, potato hash, or spring mix salads.

According to McKee-Clark, “The biggest factor for success in fried eggs is having the right tools: a truly nonstick skillet and a silicone flipping spatula. If your egg sticks to your pan or the tool you’re using doesn’t slide easily under the edge of your egg, you’re toast.”

To fry an egg, start by heating a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat; lightly coat it with cooking spray.

Crack in your egg and follow the cooking instructions below to get the egg done just right:

Sunny-side up: Cook until whites slightly set, about 3 minutes. Your yolk should remain uncooked and yellow like the morning sun. Runny yolks are great for dipping toast!

Over-easy: Cook until whites are set, about 3 minutes. Flip over and cook for another 1 minute, allowing the yolk to slightly set.

Over-hard: Cook until whites are set, about 3 minutes. Flip over and cook for another 2 minutes, allowing the yolk to cook fully.

Pro tip: Love lacy, crispy edges on fried eggs? Make sure the oil is hot before cracking in the egg.

You can also use slightly higher heat. Sprinkle a little water in the skillet, and if it pops and skitters around, your skillet is ready for your egg.

Trend alert: Try the TikTok #Eggvelope where you separate and fry a thin of egg white, only to use it as an envelope to fold and cook a lone yolk.

Now, that’s a package worth delivering straight to your belly!

2. How to Cook Scrambled Eggs

Fluffy, moist scrambled eggs are a treat any time of day! Enjoy them with a classic side of potatoes and bacon.

Later, slide leftover scrambled eggs into a breakfast burrito or fried rice dish, ensuring none of it goes to waste.

To make scrambled eggs:

Whisk 4 eggs with salt, pepper, and a tablespoon of milk.

Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-low heat; lightly coat with cooking spray.

Pour in eggs and let them sit until the outer edges start to set. Use a spatula to pull the edges toward the center, allowing any uncooked egg liquid to flow out onto the pan.

Repeat until you have a moist, fluffy pile of scrambled eggs! Break them into smaller chunks, and enjoy.

Pro tip: McKee-Clark recommends, “Soft cheeses like goat’s milk or blue cheese crumble can lend a rich creaminess. Just keep in mind that a couple of teaspoons go a long way. I add them just after pouring the eggs into the skillet. Then, I love topping my scrambled eggs at the end with whatever fresh herbs might be in the fridge (e.g., oregano, thyme, chives, green onions).”

Trend alert: Aussie folded eggs feature an egg rosette atop crunchy bread. And, you can make it with two minor tweaks: 1) use milk instead of cream, and 2) when the outer edges are set, move your spatula in a circular motion starting from the outside in toward the center like you’re drawing a spiral.

3. How to Make an Egg Omelet

Omelets are scrambled eggs that haven’t been mixed and moved. Personalize them with your favorite fillings like mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, peppers, spinach, sausage, and ham.

To make an omelet, cook your filling first. This helps them brown, develop flavor and dehydrate before going into your omelet. Set aside, then:

Whisk 4 eggs with salt, pepper, and a tablespoon of milk or water.

Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-low heat; lightly coat with cooking spray.

Pour in eggs and evenly sprinkle on the filling. Let them sit until the outer edges start to set. Use a spatula to pull the edges toward the center, letting any uncooked egg liquid flow out onto the pan.

Repeat until there’s no liquid left. Fold the omelet in half to plate and enjoy.

Trend alert: Korean tornado egg omelets are all the rage on social media. Use two chopsticks to pinch and swirl the egg mixture toward the center of the pan. The result is an awesome, mounded egg vortex. Downside: You may need a lot of practice!

4. How to Cook Poached Eggs

Tender, gooey poached eggs are a must for classic eggs benedict but can also be enjoyed in a comforting bowl of ramen or atop sauteed greens.

To make poached eggs, start with fresh eggs, which have firmer egg whites that don’t leave a wispy mess when you poach.

Only have old eggs?

Crack them into a fine-mesh sieve to strain egg white that’s too watery. Then, follow these steps:

Add at least 5 inches of water and 1-2 teaspoons of vinegar to a pot. Bring water to a boil, and reduce the heat, so the water slowly simmers.

Carefully drop your egg into the water, letting it congeal before you add the next egg. Don’t add too many, or you’ll have trouble keeping track of cooking time.

Cook each egg for 3 minutes to get firm whites and a liquid yolk. Let it cook for 30 seconds longer if you prefer a firmer yolk.

5. How to Cook Boiled Eggs

How do you boil an egg? It depends on if you like them soft-boiled or hard-boiled.

The more done you like your eggs, the longer they need to sit in hot water. Says McKee-Clark, “Soft-boiled are my favorite, so I can dip my toast into the runny yolk, and there’s no need for any added oil.”

To make boiled eggs, add your eggs to a pot and cover them with at least an inch of water. Then, follow these steps:

Bring the pot to a powerful rolling boil on high heat.

Turn off the heat and immediately cover the pot.

If you like soft-boiled eggs, let the eggs sit for 5 minutes, then drain, crack and enjoy!

If you want hard-boiled eggs, let the eggs sit for 10 minutes, then drain, crack and enjoy!

Pro tip: McKee-Clark gives us a reason to appreciate old eggs for once: “Using week-old eggs is always the best bet for getting that perfect, under-the-membrane peel when you make boiled eggs.”

What are some good yes or no questions to ask when you’re getting to know someone?

You can probably think of some off the top of your head, but how handy would it be to have a ready-made list of yes or no questions that are good for any occasion?

That’s what we thought.

And in making this list, we steered clear of questions likely to put your questionee on the defensive.

That’s so not our goal here.

There’s a reason we put the word “fun” in the title.

What Are Some Good Yes or No Questions?

So, what makes for a good yes or no question? First of all, the questionee should be able to give a simple yes or no answer.

Whether they elaborate is entirely up to them.

Here are some general ground rules to follow when deciding whether or not to ask a specific yes or no question:

It should respect the privacy of the one being asked.

It should be a question you could safely ask anyone else.

It shouldn’t satisfy your curiosity at the other’s expense.

It goes without saying that yes or no questions in a group context should never be used to out anyone or expose them to hostile attention.

Put yourself in their place before you ask.

77 Fun and Funny Yes or No Questions to Ask

Now that you know what to avoid, we hope you enjoy the following yes or no questions.

Since some questions might hit too close to home for some, always consider their background and comfort level before you ask away.

Do you have a secret talent?

Have you ever been arrested?

Have you ever pranked someone and had it go horribly wrong?

Did you have pets growing up?

Do you believe in life on other planets?

Have you ever had a bad break-up?

Have you ever created and buried a time capsule?

Do you believe in the theory of evolution?
