<p>Losing weight is never easy. From changing up your diet to adding in exercise, it can require making swaps and sacrifices. And one area that tends to be troublesome when it comes to ditching weight is the belly. (Here are 9 foods to avoid if you want to lose belly fat.) That fat that accumulates there, also known as visceral fat, may be stubborn—but not impossible to lose.</p>
<p>And these seven women all successfully lost belly fat and weight naturally. Here are 12 of their tips to help you, too.</p>

<p>&#8220;PLAN! Always have a plan. Since the very start of my journey every Sunday I still sit down and plan all my dinners for the week with my shopping list. I even pre-track meals so I know how many points I have to work with before dinner. If we are having a night of eating out I check out the menu before I go and plan my meal out. I&#8217;m not afraid to bring my own items to the restaurant.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;PREP! I stock my fridge and pantry with foods that I know will fuel and fill my body. I try to not let myself get too hungry, but I&#8217;m a busy mom and sometimes I don&#8217;t listen to my hunger queues and before I know it I&#8217;m starving. By keeping items on hand that I know fit my budget helps to not binge.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;SWAP! I have learned to take the foods I enjoy and love and &#8216;tweak&#8217; the recipe to make sure it fits my plan for the day. Some of this includes swapping out pre-made pizza dough for 2-ingredient dough (equal parts self rising flour with 0% plain Greek yogurt) Using whole grains bread over white. Chickpea pasta over regular pastas.&#8221;</p>

<p>Weight loss without exercise may seem impossible, but Raven-Symone proves nothing is such. Her 40-pound weight loss has stunned followers, especially when she claims she doesn&#8217;t exercise. The actress and former <em>The View</em> host <a rel="noopener noreferrer external nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pv_lGzRcWE4">stopped by the show for their 25th season celebration</a> to discuss life now and the remarkable weight loss journey that has fans buzzing.</p>
<p>Last year Raven said that she wanted to focus on her health. When asked what made her want to change, Raven said, &#8220;What made me want to change was her,&#8221; gesturing to her wife, Miranda Pearman-Maday. &#8220;I want to be here for her as long as I can, and I found out some numbers at the doctor that were not pleasant for someone in my age bracket or any age bracket, to be honest with you.&#8221;</p>
<p>Raven-Symone contributes the support and guidance of her wife for her successful weight loss. <p>Although losing weight can be a challenge, many people find that the toughest aspect of weight loss is preventing those pounds from creeping back. According to <a rel="noopener noreferrer external nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5764193/">one meta-analysis</a>, more than half of lost weight is regained within two years, and by five years, that number zooms up to 80%.</p>
<p>So, what are those who are successful in keeping the weight off doing right? A <a rel="noopener noreferrer external nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/oby.23372">new study in the journal <em>Obesity</em></a> reveals their top strategies.</p>
<p>Researchers surveyed more than 6,000 participants in a weight-loss program WW who had lost more than 50 pounds and kept it off for over three years. Answering questions about their motivations and tactics, these were the most cited tips. <p>Perseverance was the biggest theme in the survey responses, and also a key method for dealing with inevitable setbacks, according to lead researcher Suzanne Phelan, PhD, in the department of kinesiology and public health at California Polytechnic State University. By having a long-term view, it was much easier to restart quickly instead of giving up the effort to maintain control over consumption levels, she says.</p>

<p>For nearly everyone who was successful in maintaining their weight loss, tracking food had become a daily habit, even after hitting their &#8220;goal weight.&#8221; One maintainer advised, &#8220;You have to get up every day and make a choice to track and eat right. <p>Another notable strategy is not to think about weight at all as a primary motivator. Weight loss maintainers noted that the most important changes were &#8220;non-scale victories&#8221; like reduced pain, better control of chronic medical conditions, feeling a greater sense of confidence as well as more ease in their bodies, and having more consistent energy and lighter moods.</p>

<p>As one maintainer noted, &#8220;Think of changing your eating habits as part of creating a healthy lifestyle.&#8221; That means weight loss comes as a result, or even a side effect, of that shift instead of being the main focus in itself. That also helps you pivot toward other healthy changes that have been shown to improve weight loss maintenance, like daily activity, quality sleep, and reduced stress.</p>

<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve been using a program from a company called MetPro. They help you hack your metabolism. There are no pills or shakes or anything. I&#8217;ve never eaten healthier. <p>&#8220;I first lost weight by using a weight loss meal delivery service to get some weight off quickly and then started heavy lifting 4 days per week to build muscle.  I worked with a trainer over Skype and set up a gym in my garage so I could work out without having to drop my kids off at a child watch.  So, my number 1 tip is just start and stop putting it off!</p>

<p>I am 36 years old, and I would say 27 years of my life have been spent in a battle with my weight. You name the diet—I have probably tried it… more than once and failed at it. Nothing ever came easy, nothing ever made sense. I would try something new and get bored of it—which then led to gaining even more weight.</p>
<p>Growing up I was made to feel bad about myself because of my weight and eating habits. I would be forced into certain diets that never made me feel good. They left me feeling either sick, starving, or extremely bloated. There was never a consistent pattern in any of the &#8220;diets&#8221; I was on. It was either eat a pound of broccoli and fish, or you can eat greasy burgers and mayo but no bun. How was any of that sustainable or going to make me be able to lose weight the healthy way? It wasn&#8217;t.</p>
<p>All the other diets I have been on have always been about losing weight and never taught me the value of nutrition and healthy eating.</p>
<p>In 2018 I became the unhealthiest I&#8217;ve ever been. I am a wife, and a mom of two amazing boys. I would eat fast food four or five times a week and then throw out the bags to hide the evidence from my family. I had become lazy in making healthy meals that I would just throw together without thinking of nutrition. I had fallen back into so many bad habits that led to me feeling sad all day long. I hated the way I looked, how I felt, and, more importantly, the path I was heading down.</p>
<h2>The power of portion control</h2>
<p>November 2018 is when my life changed forever. It was when I asked for help and was introduced to The Ultimate Portion Fix program. I needed to know what people were doing to get these amazing results. I needed to know all about it—NOW!</p>

<p>I jumped in. I watched all the Ultimate Portion Fix videos, read all the program materials, and used the workbooks and logbooks provided. There was no cutting out carbs or fruits like so many &#8220;diets&#8221; make you do. This made sense. There was no weighing my food or counting calories. <strong>I didn&#8217;t have to give up foods that I love, I just had to pick healthier versions and proper portion sizes</strong>—something we all know but are never fully aware of not to do—until now I wish I would have known about this years ago—but what was important was that I had the tools I needed now.</p>
<p>The first few days I measured, and I prepared meals ahead of time. Did I have doubts? Of course! I had doubts this was going to work for me—because nothing in the past had. But I continued to measure, I continued to portion my meals and eat exactly how I was supposed to.</p>
<p>My cravings for sugar slowly went away and it got easier. I was learning to cook healthy meals for my family! I realized this wasn&#8217;t like anything I had ever done. I was able to eat all the food I normally would, but now <strong>I was using these containers as my guide, and they taught me how to eat all over again</strong>.</p>
<h2>Find your &#8216;why&#8217; and lose the pounds</h2>
<p>In one year, I lost 110 pounds following Autumn&#8217;s Portion Fix program and pushing play on her workouts. I used the tools that were given to me and followed them. There were no shortcuts, there was no easy way out. I knew I needed to change my old habits to see new results—long-lasting results.</p>
<p>When it got hard, I would remember her talking about our &#8220;whys.&#8221; Why was I doing this? To lose weight and be healthy. Why did I NEED to do this? Because I didn&#8217;t want to die young. I wanted to grow old with my husband and watch my boys grow up. Those answers are ALWAYS in the back of my head.</p>
<p>My boys watch me push play to Autumn&#8217;s workout programs every day and see me have fun doing it! I can make them delicious, healthy meals, and what is even more amazing is that they are aware of making healthy choices. They used to watch me sit around on a couch all day feeling sad and eating junk food. Today, they have the best version of me and it&#8217;s all because of those 6 amazing containers.</p>

<p>&#8220;I lost 20 pounds this year after gaining weight during Covid. I decided to try an Isagenix program, even though I was hesitant because of the price. It was a tough 30-day regiment and I had to completely change the way I was eating. I cut out dairy, red meat, alcohol, and in the first 30 days I lost 14 pounds.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;I decided to continue the plan but phased a few alcoholic drinks in here and there (just clear alcohol like vodka or tequila if I went out with friends). In May, I lost another 6 pounds.&#8221;</p>

<p>&#8220;The biggest thing with my weight loss was getting my diet under control. Previously, every burger was a double cheeseburger, every scoop of potatoes and cheese had a second one behind it. Dessert was a &#8216;yes, please!&#8217; But I realized no amount of exercise can undo this.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;I also found intermittent fasting to be a game-changer for me. It turns your body off fat-creation mode and puts it into fat-burning mode.&#8221;</p>

<p>&#8220;My buddies and I actually made a bet to see who could get in shape the fastest. I know it may sound strange, but I believe that to achieve your health goals, you have to make it about something bigger than you. Making a pact made me do the things I said I was going to do even when no one else was watching.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;I used a free app called <a rel="noopener noreferrer external nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://www.myfitnesspal.com/">MyFitnessPal</a> and input my goal of losing weight. I tracked my daily calorie intake while still getting enough macronutrients to gain muscle. <p>In 2018, <strong>Kevin Smith</strong> had a heart attack that would ultimately change his life—surprisingly, for the better. The actor and director, then 47, revealed in a subsequent post to his <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/Bfp72yqg8MD/">Instagram account</a> that he had suffered a &#8220;100% blockage of [his] LAD artery (also known as &#8216;the Widow-Maker&#8217; because when it goes, you&#8217;re a goner).&#8221;</p>
<p>Since then, Smith has been on a mission to shape up and live a long, healthy life for himself and his family. Smith dropped 50-plus pounds in the first six months following his heart attack, and he recently revealed that he shed another 25 pounds—this time losing the weight in a single month.</p>

<p>On June 23, Smith told his Twitter followers, &#8220;I&#8217;ve got pandemic pounds to lose. I just gotta keep trying,&#8221; after a YouTube commenter told him it was &#8220;time to go back to the hockey jerseys&#8221; he had worn when he was heavier.</p>
<p>Committed to shedding the weight, Smith began hiking daily in Los Angeles&#8217; Runyon Canyon.</p>
<p>Lo and behold, just a month later, Smith had shed 25 pounds, telling his followers that he had just two pounds left to lose before meeting his goal.</p>
<p>However, it&#8217;s not exercise that has helped Smith achieve the leaner figure he has now.</p>
<p>&#8220;My kid encouraged me to go vegan…she was like, &#8216;I&#8217;ve gotta flip him,&#8217; and she did. And I became vegan,&#8221; Smith explained during a 2019 <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkVTXQkj_Ok">WIRED Autocomplete interview</a>.</p>

<p>However, Smith admitted that the transition was a tough one initially, &#8220;I hate vegetables…hate &#8217;em with a passion. Very hard to be a vegan when you hate vegetables and stuff,&#8221; he explained.</p>
<p>Instead of forcing himself to load up on foods he doesn&#8217;t enjoy, Smith decided to incorporate intermittent fasting into his daily routine. &#8220;Given the choice between broccoli and kumquats, you&#8217;re like, &#8216;I&#8217;d rather not f***ing eat.&#8217; And so you just don&#8217;t eat at all, so you just skip meals. I don&#8217;t eat breakfast. I break my fast at about 1 or 2 o&#8217;clock in the afternoon—I go as deep into the day as I can—and I don&#8217;t eat after 8 o&#8217;clock at night,&#8221; he explained.</p>

<p>In a new interview with Australia&#8217;s <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1wU6KmOEng"><em>Today Show</em></a>, Raven-Symoné revealed that she decided to lose weight after having a frightening experience at the doctor.</p>
<p>&#8220;My numbers came back and it scared the bejesus out of me. I&#8217;ve always dealt with weight my entire life…surpassing 200 pounds at some points, going under 150 at other points,&#8221; she explains. &#8220;There was a moment recently where I sat down with my wife and I was just like, &#8216;This has to stop.'&#8221;</p>

<p>In order to shed the pounds, Raven-Symoné adopted a &#8220;low-carb, high-fat&#8221; way of eating that she says keeps her satiated in a way that her previous meal plans didn&#8217;t.</p>
<p>In addition to her new way of eating, the star says that she&#8217;s been incorporating &#8220;lots of fasting&#8221; and low-impact exercise into her regular routine.</p>

<p>Raven-Symoné says that, in addition to making over her eating habits, she feels like she &#8220;finally understand[s] the science of my body and what it needs in order to be at a healthy weight.&#8221;</p>
<p>The star says that much of her weight loss has come about due to a seismic mental and emotional change. &#8220;I call some of my weight &#8216;hate weight,'&#8221; she explains, noting that therapy and her happy marriage have helped guide her transformation. &#8220;As soon as I stopped hating things around me and my cortisol went down, I was able to not rely on carbs as much and take away all of those things that were really pushing my insulin levels to the point of no return, creating an insulin resistance in me that is very dangerous for future health.&#8221;</p>

<p>Raven-Symoné says she&#8217;s not letting the number on the scale determine how she feels about her progress.</p>
<p>&#8220;I put away that number, I put away that scale,&#8221; she says. &#8220;What I look at is: Am I able to walk up a flight of stairs without huffing and puffing? Am I able to wake up without inflammation in my ankles and my wrists and all of my injuries?
