The great outdoors is a wonderful place to be, especially in a hot Summer. Simply going outside can have huge benefits on your physical and mental wellbeing, so next time you’re planning a party or event, why not take it outside?

Cover

We can preach about the wonders of the great outdoors all day, but you always have to be realistic, and sometimes it is going to rain. The best thing you can do is organize some cover!

You can find plenty of party tents to rent online that will provide great protection against the wind, rain, or even the sun! Move the food, bar, and tables under your tent and your guests will be comfortable no matter what.

Music

Bringing music outdoors can be a little more difficult, considering you need to be very aware of the wiring and any electrical components outside. That being said, gigs are held outside all the time, so how can you get that sound quality on a budget?

There are plenty of companies online who will organize your outdoors sound systems for you, for a cost. A good idea could be to hire a local band who will bring their own equipment! That way you get a live performance to give your event the edge!

Lighting

Throughout the day, your outdoors event will be entirely weather dependant, but no matter the weather, you’ll need to organize some lighting if your event goes on past sunset!

Outdoors lighting can be as cheap or as expensive as you like. From full, elaborate lighting set-ups to a few spotlights hidden amongst the trees. You should go for a lighting hire company that works on all kinds of different events to make sure you’re getting all of the expertise while keeping the costs low.

Planning

Some people adore party planning, others hate it! Finding bands and caterers can be great fun, but getting into the intricate and vital details of guest lists, timings, travel and accommodation can become an administrative nightmare.

Get to grips with what a professional party planner does on a day to day basis, and get very good at keeping notes! Party planning can be stressful, but if you follow some planning guidance, you’ll make it through to the big day without a hitch.

Flooring

If the rain comes, then your wonderful outdoors setting could turn into a slippery, muddy nightmare. The last thing you want is for your guests to be slipping, sliding, and splashing their way through your party!

Get ahead of the weather and get some outdoors floor panels for your event. Rent these out and build walkways and platforms at the most important areas of your venue. That way, if the weather fails, your event will live on!

Bringing an event outdoors comes with challenges, but if you follow these simple steps and tricks, and if you’re planned enough, you should be able to overcome whatever the outdoors throws at you!

Many people only feel they are comfortable in their home environment more than anywhere else. Anxiety is one of those things that can affect us in any setting, and while you may feel comfortable at home if you ever experience anxiety when you are out in public, what are some of the things you can do? Here are 4 ways to manage your anxiety when you’re on the move:

A Metaphorical Comfort Blanket

Sometimes we can all benefit from having that sense of comfort between us in the world. A comfort blanket can help ground us and make us feel like we are at home. If we are anxious, we can start to ground ourselves with certain habits, for example, chewing gum and focusing on that sensation, or bringing a certain smell with us in perfume form. You could also have a healthy habit. Something like CBD tinctures that you can put into some water can make a big difference to how you feel in the moment. When we are anxious we lose touch with where we are, so having those anchors to keep us focused will make a big difference.

Repeating A Mantra

Regardless of whether you are into meditation or not, repeating a mantra in your head does a lot to take over any negative trains of thought. If you are walking along, a mantra that has a sense of rhythm like “I’m safe, I’m safe, I’m safe,” is a great way to help us feel connected. As the brain cannot tell the difference between what is real and what is imagined if you start to give yourself the signals that you want, a mantra or affirmation is going to really help in the situation.

Stimulate Your Vagus Nerve

Your vagus nerve is a key part of your parasympathetic nervous system, which is what keeps you calm. Therefore, stimulating your vagus nerve by breathing slowly through the belly and exhaling longer than inhaling can fight stress. Another tactic can be to move your eyes to 9 o’clock. Keeping your eyes focused at 9 o’clock and waiting for a swallow or a yawn is a very quick way to stimulate relaxation. Additionally, you can stimulate your vagus nerve through mindfulness, Omega-3s, probiotics and yoga.

Have A Plan

Anxiety can cause problems for a lot of people when they don’t know what they are doing. Feeling more in control can do a lot to prevent us from making any sudden decisions that stimulate anxiety and panic. If the day is mapped out for you, this can make a big difference but additionally, you can also make enough time so you don’t have to push yourself into that anxiety zone. If you worry about missing a deadline, whether it’s work-related or getting somewhere, making a plan of where you’re going and adding in contingency time will prevent that need to rush around.

Being on the move is something we all need to do, and as a result it’s hardly surprising that worry can creep in. Hopefully, some of these tricks will make a big difference in helping you to manage your anxiety.

Moving on from an ex is hard — especially when you still love them.

Whether the breakup was a surprise or not, letting go of your ex and preparing yourself for a life without them may be the hardest thing you’ve ever done.

It’s normal to wonder how to move on from the love of your life, however, you lost them.

You’re not alone.

And you can move on.

Read on to learn how.

How to Move on From An Ex: 13 Ideas to Make It Less Painful

This post is for all who are asking themselves, “Why can’t I move on from my ex?” If this is you, we’re glad you’re here. Take some time to read through all 13 of the following ideas on how to move on from your ex.

Make a note of the ones that stand out for you.

1. Accept what has happened.

Moving on is impossible if you’re still in denial about what happened. You’re not alone if you’re still holding onto the possibility your ex will come back to you. But holding onto false hopes or refusing to accept your ex’s decision to leave is only holding you back.

Until you accept the truth and let go of your ex, you won’t allow yourself to heal or to create a better life for yourself.

2. Talk to someone.

A trusted family member may be able to help you see your situation more clearly, especially one who’s experienced a painful breakup and has moved on from it.

You can also find a therapist or mentor to talk to about what you’re going through with this breakup. Work through the process with someone who can challenge your thinking, support you as you process your loss, and help you see your way forward.

3. Acknowledge the truth behind the breakup.

Moving on requires more than simply accepting the breakup; you also need to acknowledge what led up to it, without judging either yourself or your ex.

Get to the truth of what happened and why the breakup was necessary. If it wasn’t, you’d both be doing everything possible to stay together.

The goal is to learn what you can from the experience, so you can both do better next time.

4. Get some closure.

To get to the truth behind your breakup, you might need to talk to your ex. And you’ll probably hear some things you’d rather not.

Still, it beats wondering…

Was it something you said or did (or didn’t say or do)?

Was your ex attracted to someone else?

Was there anything you could have done to save the relationship?

Don’t argue with your ex, or you won’t learn as much as you can about their perspective on the relationship. You might not agree with it. But if one of you says it’s over, it is.

5. Give yourself some social distance — from your ex.

Once you’ve learned what you need to learn from your ex about their perspective on the breakup and the reasons behind it, give yourself time and space away from them.

No calls or texts

No visits or “accidental” meetings

No social media stalking

You need the social distance to process what you’ve learned and to decide how you’re going to move forward. If your ex sees your relationship as part of their past, there’s no reason for them to have 24/7 access to you in the present.

6. Pursue an interest you’ve put on the back burner.

Is there something you’ve wanted to do but haven’t because your ex wanted you to do something else? Maybe it’s a lot of somethings. Make a list.

Focus on what you’re free to do, now, that you couldn’t do before because your ex (i.e., former partner) discouraged the idea or kept you busy with other things.

Allow yourself to enjoy the freedom to do what you want without feeling guilty about it.

7. Take care of yourself.

Don’t neglect self-care when you’re working through the fallout from a painful breakup. If anything, double down on it. Breakups don’t make you any less worthy of love.

This is not the time to neglect basic hygiene (not that there’s ever a good time for that). Keep that up, and think about something you can do to show yourself some extra TLC.

Tender-loving care does not include going on benders or sobbing loudly outside your ex’s apartment. Think of something your future self will thank you for.

8. Spend time with friends, and meet new people.

Get together with some friends and be open to the idea of meeting new people.

You don’t have to be ready to date; just focus on being good company for your friends. And allow yourself to enjoy theirs.

That said, if you try this and feel incapable of socializing, no one should blame you for leaving early and giving yourself some time alone — or with one friend at a time.

9. Listen to the right voices.

The louder voice in your head right now is probably being a jerk, saying all kinds of unhelpful things. Tell that voice to stuff it. It’s not you. And it’s not telling you the truth. It’s just repeating the same old false beliefs with an extra helping of judgment.

Listen to the quieter, gentler voice behind that one — the inner voice that doesn’t kick you when you’re down. Spend time in the present moment just listening for that voice.

You’ll know it by the peace it brings.

10. Reframe your past.

Moving forward is a lot easier when you can see your past as it is and not as something you have to fix. Try reframing your past in a way that helps you let go of your ex and move on.

Ditch the drama and the self-hating or resentful language and focus on the naked truth of what happened between you, without judging either person.

Change the way you think about the past, and you can change your present for the better.

11. Let the past go.

Once you’ve reframed your past, it’s time to make your intention to leave it where it is.

Decide to stop yourself whenever you’re tempted to write long-winded monologues about how your ex has done you wrong. Remind yourself that those thoughts are meaningless. Refuse to give them the power to dominate your thinking and keep you stuck in the past.

Then replace them with thoughts that help you heal and focus on the present.

12. Get real with the present.

Your present is where the light is and where you are, and it deserves your attention. Your present is where your focus should be, as much as possible.

We get how tempting it is to wander back to memories you shared with your ex (those you remember with a smile — and others). But it’s time to make new memories, and for that to happen, you have to engage fully with the present moment.

Notice the good things around you and the possibilities each moment holds. Take a moment to savor what you have, and be honest about where you are. Start there.

13. Get ready to rewrite your story.

You’re never too old to make a new start and write a new story for yourself. It doesn’t even have to resemble your past. But it will be influenced by your beliefs.

The good news? You choose what you believe. And if you change those, you can change the way you think — about yourself and everything else. Your beliefs are the foundation of every story you tell about yourself.

Make this one better than the last. Because you can.

FAQ About Moving On From An Ex

Now that you’ve read through all 13 ways to move on from an ex, let’s recap and tackle some frequently-asked questions.

How do you get over an ex you still love?

The steps are the same as the ones you’ve just read about, but working through them might take a bit longer. Give yourself all the space and the time you need to grieve the loss of someone you love and to get to the truth behind the break-up.

How do I stop thinking about my ex?

You can’t control what your monkey mind will throw at you, but you can control what thoughts you choose to dwell on. So, when you’re tempted to think about your ex, think about something else.

Find new things to occupy your mind. Don’t beat yourself up if your thoughts stray back to your ex, but don’t let those thoughts steal the spotlight, either.

How long does it take to get over an ex you still love?

That depends entirely on you. We don’t say that to make light of your pain but to point out that it’s up to you to decide when you’ll let go of your ex and move on with your life.

That said, don’t compare yourself to others who’ve gotten over their exes more quickly — or those who are still steeped in agony over their loss. Your process is your own.

No one else can speed you through it or hold you back.

Conclusion

Now that you know how to move on from an ex, which of the ideas described above stood out for you? And what will you do today to help yourself heal and create a life you love?

Shameless star Cameron Monaghan is working hard in the gym to stay fit, and the results are seriously impressive.

The 27-year-old actor was recently filmed during his workout at Dogpound, a gym that’s a favorite among numerous celebrities, including models Chanel Iman, Kaia Gerber, Ashley Graham, and Karlie Kloss, and actors including Noah Centineo and Hugh Jackman.

In the clip, posted to Instagram by Dogpound trainer Ryan Rosenthal, Monaghan can be seen doing plank crunches. To tackle the ab workout, Monaghan props up his upper body on a set of floor-based supports, extending his legs behind him on a medicine ball. Once in a plank position, Monaghan does a push-up, then brings his knees into his chest to activate his core.

That’s not the only way Monaghan stays toned, however. In an interview with Hero magazine, Monaghan revealed that he’s a big fan of getting in a workout in the ring, as well.

“I used to do XMA, which is doing acrobatics, martial arts, learning about weapons, and all that fun stuff! But for the past couple of years I’ve just been boxing,” Monaghan explained.

RELATED: “It’s Always Sunny” Star Rob McElhenney Reveals How He Lost 70 Pounds.

When it comes to his diet, Monaghan isn’t exactly Spartan, either, although he admits that balance is key.

Monaghan told Black Chalk magazine that he had no regrets about indulging his inner foodie during a trip to France.

When asked what he ate, the actor replied, “Foie Gras, caviar, pretty much all the cliche French foods. It was all delicious. I was eating too much baguette and cheese. So I have to get back into fitness mode now.” And by the looks of it, he’s definitely made good on that promise.

We live in a society that is often incredibly judgemental. As a result, certain life events or struggles are often viewed upon in an unnecessarily negative light, as opposed to with grace and kindness. Unfortunately, addiction in any form is often viewed in this way. However, it is important to understand that there is nothing shameful about addiction, and you deserve love and support no matter what problems you may be dealing with. Though it may not seem like it right now, there is a way forward, and the future remains bright.

With that in mind, here are some ways to start to move forward from addiction.

Acknowledge That You Have A Problem

Addiction can be incredibly sneaky. As it manifests itself in so many different ways, sometimes we do not realize that we have a problem until it seems too late. However, acknowledging and accepting the fact that you have a problem is often the first step towards recovery – as it means that you are finally ready for change.

Try To Find The Cause Of The Addiction

There are various different causes of addiction. For example, in some cases, it is hereditary, meaning that addiction can run in your family. For others, addiction can be a response to trauma or unresolved issues from your past. By determining the cause of your addiction, you can begin to put plans in place to avoid those situations in the future. It also presents you with the opportunity to put alternative, safer coping mechanisms in place that will help you deal with these problems moving forward. For example, exercise can be a useful way to combat addiction.

Seek Additional Help

At this stage, you must seek additional support to find the safest way to recover from your addiction. For example, this could mean that you begin attending group therapy sessions with others who have experienced similar addiction issues to you, such as alcoholics anonymous. However, it could also mean that you may need to spend some time at a drug rehab facility. Though rehab may seem terrifying, it can bring about truly positive change and provide you with the insight and skills you need to banish your addiction for good. Furthermore, it does not necessarily mean that you will be completely isolated from those you love, as visitation is often allowed as you begin to recover and heal.

Remember That Recovery Can Be A Slow Process

Recovery cannot happen overnight, and sometimes you may feel as though you are fighting a losing battle. Whenever you feel this way, you must understand that actual change takes time, and you do not have to work towards anybody’s timeline aside from your own. Furthermore, you need to ensure that you hold yourself accountable when possible. For example, if you are undergoing treatment for an addiction to drugs, hanging out with people who are taking drugs may not be the best decision. As a result, you may have to distance yourself from past relationships and behaviors to invest in your future. However, this does not mean that you are alone. Always ask for help and support when you need it – even if you want something as simple as a phone call with a friend.

Do you have a big bold goal you have been wanting to accomplish? On the heels of the year we had in 2020, it may seem insurmountable. In the 25+ years, I have been coaching my clients to bankroll their brilliance, I have learned that so many people want more but are scared to get it!

I am talking about people who are ALREADY successful. You already have the career you always wanted. Matter of fact, you have the corner office, the title, and the expense account. You have it all and yet you feel like something is missing. However, because you are already successful, you feel guilty for wanting more. Does that sound familiar?

Well, can I tell you that the reason you have that rumble in your belly is because you’re done with where you are. Your bio or resume is complete and so it’s time to permit yourself to stop settling for what you’ve already accomplished! Yes, there is MORE for you to do!

The sad truth is that most people believe that going after that rumble in your belly, which is tied to your purpose by the way, is only for a select few. They spend their days in a career that is good enough, focus on climbing the corporate ladder or going after a larger paycheck instead of actually going after the rumble inside their belly which is their heart desire! Well, if you are ready for 2021 to be the year you go after your big bold dream, here are the three steps that will help you achieve it.

1. Be Willing To Do It Afraid!

What I hear from most people about going after what’s next is that they are scared. They are scared that they won’t reach the same success they have already obtained as they transition to this new way of exercising their gift. Well to that, I say ANYTHING you do that is great WILL BE SCARY! Ask Ava DuVernay, a little black girl from Compton who accomplished one insurmountable goal of being a publicist in Hollywood. To leave that career to go after her MORE and follow her REAL passion of becoming a director.

Let me tell you that when you are already successful, often times, it is THAT success that’s in your way. You see, the ranks you climbed to get to where you are can keep you in ‘‘good enough,’’ if you let it. Understand that feeling afraid is a normal part of the process. Your MORE is a new place you have never been before, so because of that, it’s going to be scary.

Just don’t let that fear paralyze you from moving toward your goals. Your comfort zone can keep you in very predictable spaces. Matter of fact, your comfort zone is where dreams go to die! So, don’t stay where you are choosing comfort and what may seem the easiest or most convenient thing to do. Let go of fear and your expectations of having to know and understand it all; accept that you may need to do #2.

“Life is from the inside out. When you shift on the inside, life shifts on the outside.” – Kamal Ravikant

2. Find Help!

When you are setting out on a path you have never been on before, there are some things that you just aren’t going to know how to do, no matter how brilliant you already are! So, stop trying to figure everything out yourself and find someone to help you move your vision forward.

Yes, you may be gifted enough to do this new thing but do you know the strategy you need to use or even how to grow it effectively? One of my favorite quotes by Bishop A.R. Bernard is “The Tools You Used on This Level Are Not Sufficient For Your Next,” so you must invest in a coach, a class etc… that will give you the strategy you need to move your dream forward.

3. Create A Winning Strategy

Often, overwhelm and/or fear sets in because you are working without a plan. And when you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Instead, creating a strategy will assure you are on a path toward success. A strategy is a long-term plan of action designed to achieve a particular goal or a set of objectives. When you have a plan and something goes different than expected, as it always will, you can make needed adjustments. Instead of being totally thrown off altogether. So YES, having an expert who understands this NEW lane you are walking into and helps you create a winning strategy is a MUST!

You may also wish to create your strategy into a vision board. A vision board is a collage of pictures, images, statements and/or affirmations of your dreams or all the things that you believe in your life. Vision boards became popular years ago with the introduction of the Law of Attraction, which is the belief that “like attracts like” and that by focusing on positive or negative thoughts, one can bring about positive or negative results.

The idea is that by creating a vision board, you are surrounding yourself with images of what you want and therefore, your life changes to attract those things that you desire to come to you as you focus on it by making a Vision Board. It also is a reminder of what you are working toward and keeps you inspired to stay in action to obtain it.

If 2021 is the year for you to successfully MOVE into your MORE, stop looking for the shortcut toward the success that is yours; instead, put into practice 1, 2 or all 3 of these steps I have laid out for you. I know for sure that if you read this far down in this article, it’s because you know that you want more. So now, all you need to do is take positive action to go and get it!

“Some of us think holding on makes us strong, but sometimes it is letting go.”
Herman Hesse

I often write about finding lightness in life.

It can come from an unhurried but effective day at work or from uncluttering your home.

Or from learning how to let go and move on in life.

Learning to let go of a relationship, of something else in your past, of something that is just an unimportant distraction or of trying to control what you cannot control can free up huge amounts of the energy and the time you have to use for something better and more fulfilling.

It is not always easy. But it can be life-changing.

In this article you can find five steps that have made it easier for me to let go over the years.

I hope they will help you too.

Step 1: Know the benefits of not letting go.

Why is it sometimes hard to let go of something?

Well, to be honest, there are advantages and benefits to not letting go. At least for instant gratification and in the short run.

You get to keep feeling like you are right. And like the other person is wrong. And that can be a pleasant feeling and way to look at the situation at hand.

You can assume the victim role. And get attention, support and comfort from other people.

You don’t have to go out into the scary unknown. You can cling to what you know instead, to what is familiar and safe even if it’s now just a dream of what you once had.

I have not let go of things in the past because of these reasons. I still sometimes delay letting go of things because of those benefits above.

But I am also conscious of the fact that they are something I get out of not letting go. And I know that in the end they are not worth it.

Because…

What will the long-term consequences be in my life if I do not let go?

How will it affect the next 5 years in my life and the relationships I have both with other people and with myself?

The mix of knowing how those benefits will hurt me in the long run and of knowing that there are even bigger benefits that I can get from letting go become a powerful motivator that pushes me on to let go for my own sake and happiness.

Step 2: Accept what is, then let go.

When you accept what is, that this has happened then it becomes easier to let go.

Why?

Because when you’re still struggling in your mind against what has happened then you feed that memory or situation with more energy.

You make what someone said or did even bigger and more powerful in your mind than it might have been in reality.

By accepting that it simply has happened – that you were rejected after a date for example – and letting it in instead of trying to push it away something odd happens after a while.

The issue or your memory of the situation becomes less powerful in your mind. You don’t feel as upset or sad about it as you did before. You become less emotionally attached to it.

And so it becomes easier to let go and for you to move on with your life.

Step 3: Forgive.

If someone wrongs you then it will probably cause you pain for a while.

But after that you have a choice.

You can refuse to let go of what happened. And instead let it interfere with your relationship and replay what happened over and over in your mind.

Or you can choose to forgive.

First accepting what happened can be helpful to make it easier to forgive.

Another thing you can do is not to focus on forgiving because it is “something you’re supposed to do”.

Instead, if you like, find the motivation to forgive for you own sake. Do it for your own well-being, happiness and for the time you have left in your life.

Because, as Catherine Ponder says:

“When you hold resentment toward another, you are bound to that person or condition by an emotional link that is stronger than steel. Forgiveness is the only way to dissolve that link and get free.”

And that you forgive does not mean that you have to stay passive towards your future.

You may for example choose to forgive but also to spend less time or no time in the future with someone who has hurt you.

Step 4: Focus on what you CAN influence in your life.

By reliving what happened over and over in your mind you aren’t really changing anything.

Unless you have a time-machine you don’t have any control over the past.

And being distracted or worried by things that you cannot control in your life in any way right now doesn’t help.

So ask yourself:

What CAN I focus my time and energy on instead to actually make positive progress or a change in my life?

And what is one small step I can take today to get started with that?

My experience has been that by switching my focus from what I cannot influence to what I actually have influence over and by doing that over and over again – by using questions like the ones above – it becomes easier and easier to stop worrying and to let go of what has happened or what I cannot control.

Step 5: Let go again (if necessary).

If you let go of something that happened or some distraction in your life then that might not be the end of it.

Life is not always that neat. The issue or distraction might pop up again.

Then let it go once more.

I have found that each time I let something go it pops up less and less frequently and it has less power over me.

Plus, this extra practice will make it easier to let go in the future. Letting go is something you’ll get better at over time just like for example keeping an optimistic mindset during tough times.
