There is a global shift that is occurring across organizations and corporations. Employees are declaring they want more freedom – not just in where they work but in how and when they work as well. This is a revolution where more and more employees want to work remotely, at least some of the time. The organizations that either provide at least hybrid opportunities or full-time remote work flexibility are the ones who are able to attract, maintain, and keep their workforce. Organizations that are waiting for things to return to the pre pandemic routines, rules, and schedules are losing employees and leaders are struggling to fight against the shifting tides.

Corporations adopting this new belief system that “we are not going back to old ways” are the ones who are attracting employees, retaining employees, and having higher levels of employee satisfaction. These are the companies which will dart ahead of their competition because they have seen the new way is the evolution of how employees will be most engaged and generate the best business results.

With all this evidence pointing to this new way of working style becoming our new norm, some surprising and unexpected psychological effects have come to the surface. One of these underlying emotions is the feeling of guilt and the inability to give yourself permission to work in your most optimized state. This can seem bizarre if you are hit with it, “Why am I feeling guilty? I get to work from anywhere and on my own schedule. Isn’t this what I’ve always dreamed of having?”

You may experience feelings of guilt whether you are aware of it at a conscious or unconscious level, and this can be disruptive to your psyche. Where does this guilt come from? Guilt comes because we have been programmed over our entire lives to show up at an office and be productive for a certain amount of time, usually an 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule, and in an office environment with a boss who makes all the rules. It has been indoctrinated into us since we first started attending school where we were required to be in our seats as soon as the bell rang to start class and not free to leave until the last bell rang. This same psychological conditioning of getting permission outside of ourselves has been programmed into our choices, our thoughts, our behaviors, and most importantly, our underlying beliefs about what permission means.

With the global pandemic, many organizations had to allow their workers to work remotely, which has caused a whole new cultural change in corporate culture. Now, the employees are self reliant and in charge of their own time, location, and schedule.

“Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work.” – Aristotle

What does it mean to permit yourself to work on your own terms? Many people have never had to ask this question of themselves before. I know that I experienced this firsthand when I was working in a highly demanding corporate job with tight deadlines and ambitious goals; I ended up having a complete breakdown in the hospital with pneumonia. That breakdown led me to reevaluate my entire work-life habits, including the underlying beliefs and the mindset of why I had created them in the first place.

It turns out that permitting myself to work wherever I wanted to and also whenever I chose to instead of being attached to some outdated schedule or environment was one of the hardest psychological shifts I had to overcome. I had to look at why was it so hard to permit myself? Permission comes from you letting go of the guilt. It makes sense to have guilt because we have been indoctrinated into this belief system that you can only be productive in a specific timeframe and in a set environment. In the old paradigm, if you ventured outside of this rigid box of conformity, you were considered a slacker or rule breaker. It make sense why this guilt is there, but what you will discover is that this guilt is holding you back from reaching your highest levels of productivity.

And so, permitting yourself to work when you are most optimized emotionally, mentally, physically, and even spiritually, depending on whether it is day or night or what environment you are in, you will have faster results with more significant impact. Whether you are a leader who is leading teams around the world or an employee who wants to maximize your effectiveness so that you can have more time for your personal life, permit yourself to be the most optimized version of yourself.

By dropping the guilt and relinquishing the chains of the 9-to-5, you will only skyrocket your success. As more and more people adopt this new way of thinking and being, these old patterns will begin to become just that – old-fashioned. And just like we now know that smoking is dangerous to your health, we will look back on our old antiquated ideas of how we used to be productive in the corporate world as a destructive belief system that created overwhelm, burnout, and endless causes of breakdown and stress.

Permit yourself to drop the guilt the next time you find an opportunity to work from wherever and whenever. You will find that this simple phrase, “I permit myself to be free” will set you up for long-term success. Today, give yourself permission to work as your most optimized version of yourself. That will include every factor that it takes to get there. You will find more creativity, joy, energy, and effectiveness in your day to day results.

Building a business is about more than sales, marketing, and flexing on social media. While those things tend to draw attention, they attract the wrong type of clients and are not how you build a sustainable and freedom-focused business.

It takes more than you feel is possible to have enough energy to do the growth work consistently. Successful businesses are more than the laptop lifestyle or all the other misleading things you see in social media ads. It’s more than the cute memes.

Reaching new revenue milestones and achieving higher growth levels happens when you’re strategic about what you consume, who you connect with, and what you decide to implement.

If you study any successful leader, you’ll see a person committed to their personal optimization. They spend time, energy, and resources focusing on creating healthy habits. They are the CEO of their life, leading to more focus on the growth of their business. Here are four essential growth strategies every leader should consider adding to their life and business as they’re building an empire.

1. Be a Boss and Give Off Boss Energy

An entrepreneur tends to wear many hats, especially as you’re in the initial stages of building a business. You’re the salesperson, fulfillment specialist, onboarding team, tech support, and everything in-between. When you’re frantically doing all the work, you’re not giving off boss energy. When you don’t look at ways to leverage yourself, you’re not a CEO.

Finances may not be where you’d like them to be, but there are opportunities to outsource cost-effectively. If you aren’t there with your resources, ask yourself how many sales you’ll need to make today to afford outsourcing options — then, get to work.

Your energy does all the talking before you ever do. Believe you’re a boss CEO and make decisions from a place of strength. Give off that strong energy that tells potential consumers you are someone they should pay attention to.

2. Stop Chasing Opportunities

Have you scrolled social media and seen a post that says something to the effect of, “I’m looking for X expert to help me do Z”? What you’ll notice next are hundreds of “pick me” commenters trying to get business.

Too often, business leaders chase opportunities. The chasing vibe turns away high-end clients and is revealing. Those “pick me” posts are mainly for attention, and when you show up on one of them, it tells prospects you’re hurting. The chasing chases away business.

Instead of chasing, nurture, and draw in potential business through solid content marketing and modern visibility strategies. When you show expertise through content, cold prospects want the next steps and invest with you. When you show up powerfully where your ideal consumers are, they want to know more.

Boss level doesn’t chase. It’s strategic about the strategies and moves that need to happen for consumers to come to you. Think of any successful CEO; you don’t see them chasing. Believe in what’s possible and focus on nurturing instead of pursuing growth opportunities.

“Your big opportunity may be right where you are now.” – Napoleon Hill

3. Continue to Optimize Your Time

If you’re going to do everything it takes to build a business, you’ll need to optimize how you go about that. Your time is a precious resource that should be treated accordingly and have clear boundaries. You’re the CEO — your time should be spent on the high-level growth tasks that build a business over time. Don’t get caught in the busy work because that’s one of the quickest ways to stunt growth.

The reality is that you probably don’t need more time. What needs to happen with your time is using it more effectively. Take full advantage of the time you do have by saying NO to distractions and focusing.

4. Charge Based on Value and Deliver

Charging more for products and services is an area that often frustrates too many business leaders. If you plan to deliver clear value, you can’t be afraid to charge according to that value and by respecting your time.

Whatever your prices are, it’s a safe bet they’re low — your time is valuable. Often, entrepreneurs think the key to growth is more clients. Your next level of development can come from fewer clients but with higher prices.

Once you do charge accordingly, make sure you deliver. Too often, entrepreneurs are better at selling than fulfilling. Don’t be that entrepreneur.

Nothing stops you from living an unlimited life and building a business that creates freedom and financial security. You’ll get there with a strong mindset that’s ready to put in the consistent growth work. Use these four strategies and claim the business you deserve.

If you took a good hard look in the mirror and thought about your life, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? For too many people, the reality is that you’re not spending your time the way you want to. Too much of your agenda is driven by outside circumstances.

If you thought about what made you happy and how much of that you were incorporating into your life right now, the thought would frustrate you. Successful leadership happens from a place of freedom and the ability to spend your time on what you want to be doing.

If you looked at your goals, how many are what you truly want? If you’re not experiencing the kind of success and growth you’d like in your life, the reality is that your daily choices are keeping you from that place.

If it’s your goal to optimize your growth, which in turn creates more of it and leads to getting more done, it’s time to look at the daily choices you’re making. It’s time to get honest about whether or not you’re making decisions from a place of self-prioritization.

Here are three daily choices that help you pursue growth in a way that aligns with your vision, purpose and the things you want to do. Here’s how to have happier life experiences.

1. Adjust your schedule to be proactive versus reactionary

Too often, we don’t end up spending the time we’d like to on our goals, dreams, and the things that create freedom. This misalignment happens because we’re living life reactionary. We’re trying to catch up to items on our to-do list, and as we’re doing the work, new demands come in.

When we think about our schedule and what we have to do, we’re always behind instead of being proactive. Successful leaders have figured out that if they’re going to accomplish more and create freedom, their schedule must be optimized and full of power moves.

One of the keys to exponential growth is setting a schedule from a place of self-prioritization and not letting outside circumstances influence your schedule. You create a routine and a schedule that is proactive and allows you to work in focused blocks.

Being proactive means you set boundaries in your schedule, with outside circumstances, and with yourself — to stay focused. Stop living life feeling as if you’re always trying to catch up. Take a breath, look at what makes sense, and create a schedule that allows you to feel like you’re the CEO of your life.

“It is not the length of life, but the depth of life.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

2. Find an optimized daily routine that works for you

YouTube is littered with “day in the life” videos and “how I start my morning” content. If you looked at those videos, you’d probably be shocked at the number of views, comments, and engagement. These videos are so successful because people are desperately searching for a routine that could work for them.

A lot of those videos tend to be staged, but the idea behind them has some merit. While a specific routine worked for somebody else, it doesn’t mean that routine would be the best fit for your life, archetype, and how your body operates.

To foster optimized growth, you have to find a routine that works for you. That routine might be waking up early in the morning, working later at night, working in two-hour blocks, or everything in between. The key to a powerful routine that allows you to get more done is knowing yourself. This growth starts from a place of self-awareness.

To get more done, accomplish your goals, and live a freedom-based lifestyle, you have to find an optimized routine that allows you to work, play, and live life in a way that makes sense for your architect.

Your success will not necessarily come from modeling the success of somebody else. We’re all human beings and have different goals, ambitions, and archetypes. Successful leaders figure out what schedule and routine work best for them, and they implement it consistently. That’s the key — once you’ve found what works for you, consistency will be the way you create growth.

3. Break up the constant work with pleasure

If the Instagram memes were to be believed, the hustle 24-7 lifestyle is the only way to success. Let me let you in on a little secret — it’s not. Too many leaders are chasing an image of success that burns them out and frustrates them towards the process. If you’re all work with no pleasure built into your life — what’s the point?

Work in a focused way and get more done, but you should also incorporate moments of fun and pleasure. You can create a routine that has you working for a specific time, and the reward for that focused work is pleasure. That pleasure could be watching a fascinating YouTube video, watching TV, playing video games, reading a book, or listening to a podcast.

Only you know what pleasure means for you, but the goal is to train your brain to look forward to a reward for all of your hard work. Dan Miller is quoted as saying that when people look at his life, he doesn’t want them to be able to differentiate between whether he’s working or playing. It all mixes.

You’re working hard on your goals and creating a better version of yourself. You want to create a life that gives you flexibility and freedom. That life should be filled with an abundance of pleasure alongside hard work. Remember why you’re doing this, and remember that you have to take care of yourself first. Human beings are designed to appreciate pleasure.

The success, growth, and accomplishment you seek are possible when you optimize your daily choices and create a life from a place of what you want to be doing. Stop chasing someone else’s image of success, and don’t be influenced by the unseen pictures on social media of what it means to be successful.

If you’re going to have the necessary strength and energy to accomplish your goals and create a successful life, it has to come from an optimized place. Take care of yourself first and foremost. Drive towards the vision of success that you want to attain.

One of the most important things for an entrepreneur’s mental health is expressing their feelings, thoughts, and emotions. This is where content creation and writing becomes pivotal. Whether you read something that resonates with you or you write a compelling blog post, the act of expressing yourself through content can help to put a smile on your face and make you feel better about things.

Most entrepreneurs don’t spend as much time taking care of their mental health as they should. Over the course of your career, you will experience a lot of ups and downs; these emotions have the potential to take a toll on your mind and body if you don’t learn to manage them properly.

Here are four reasons why expression through content is pivotal for healing, slowing yourself down, and giving yourself grace when the going gets tough.

1. Content can be a form of self-expression

When you are an entrepreneur, you frequently face feelings of insecurity, doubt, fear, apathy, and exhaustion, just to name a few. Some days it feels like no one is on your business’s side and everyone else has it all figured out. On those days some of us try to look at our website’s analytics to cheer up.

But an even more freeing task is creating content. You create content to improve your business and reach more people’s lives. But, there is something special that happens when you write with the intention of expressing your thoughts and feelings — you open a door to yourself.

Content is inherently personal, which means content creators open themselves up when they share their thoughts on a platform. Everything from the title of the post, the keywords they choose to include, and even the content itself helps you to understand who the author of that post truly is. And as an entrepreneur, this can be an important experience because it allows others to empathize with you.

As you think through what to write about and how to express yourself, the process of self reflection is a valuable step you need to go through. You’re able to reflect on the blessings you have, assess what you learned from the negative experiences, and create a plan on how to maintain the positive experiences you’ve had.

There are a few ways that self reflection can help you with mental health healing. The act of reflecting on your experiences helps to create clarity in feelings, thoughts and emotions which will eventually lead into acceptance for what has happened or is happening currently without feeling overwhelmed by it all. This process also leads people towards finding new things they enjoy doing. Self reflection is therapeutic and can be implemented anytime you feel the need to overcome overwhelm.

“Writing in a journal each day allows you to direct your focus to what you accomplished, what you’re grateful for and what you’re committed to doing better tomorrow. Thus, you more deeply enjoy your journey each day.” – Hal Elrod

3. A sense of belonging and camaraderie

It is important to have a support network of people who will listen and understand what you are going through. When you post a blog or upload a video on YouTube, there are others who feel the same way and experience a sense of connection with you.

When you put time, attention and thoughtfulness into your writing, it is amazing when someone reads what you’ve written and comments on it thanking you or expressing how they resonate with what you’re going through. It’s hard to put into words how powerful it feels when someone who has gone through the same experience and reads your words then reaches out. There is power in expression but miracles happen when people bond over a similar experience.

4. Library of content to share with more people

It can be very difficult to know what content to share with people as the symptoms of mental health disorders (anxiety, depression, etc.) vary from person to person. But as you accumulate more and more content, this will increase the number of articles or videos available for readers to choose from depending on their specific purpose. It also builds your personal library of resources you’re able to share to different people you encounter or engage directly with.

As chaotic and distracting social media can be, it can also be a beacon of hope with the right content. Many people share viral posts, or content that interest them. Since your content is valuable and personal, the more you share it, the more likely it is to be shared with the right audience.

You never know who is watching (reading)

Your content is speaking to someone and even though they may not be actively engaged, their experiences with your work are impacting them. Think about the last time you watched TV: did everyone in the room have something entertaining to say?

You never know who’s watching because there’s always somebody reading your posts or viewing your videos-even if they just skim through it briefly. This is why creating content worth consuming is critical, not only to get you out of your funk, but also to serve your audience. Be authentic and stay true to yourself; make every post count as an opportunity for connection with your best self and for potential readers to bond with you.
