<p>It&#8217;s predicted that 2022 <a rel="noopener noreferrer external nofollow" href="https://www.nytimes.com/2022/02/04/fashion/weddings/wedding-boom-year.html" target="_blank">will see the most number of weddings since 1984</a> with some 2.5 million couples tying the knot. That&#8217;s a lot of people potentially trying to shed weight before their big day.</p>
<p>The good news is that even with a limited timeline until you walk down the aisle, it&#8217;s still possible to lose weight fast and safely. &#8220;Typically weight loss is losing one-to-two pounds a week. Working on weight loss efforts for a month and a half you could lose up to 12 pounds,&#8221; says <strong>Jeanette Kimszal, RDN, NLC</strong>, <a rel="noopener noreferrer external nofollow" href="https://streaklinks.com/BHxy5cILy0-yAQ44vQYpb-Ri/http%3A%2F%2Fwww.RootNutritionRD.com" target="_blank">Root Nutrition &amp; Education</a>. &#8220;Weight loss does not have to be hard when you focus on your goals.&#8221;</p>
<p><strong>Nicole Swingle, RD</strong>, echoes this sentiment, saying, &#8220;While you may be stressed out about your wedding coming up and losing weight in time, it is possible to lose weight even when you&#8217;re a month out from your big day.&#8221;</p>

<p>Time to eat the rainbow, friends. One strategy &#8220;to lose weight when you have a time crunch is to increase your vegetable consumption to help you have more dietary fiber, which will help keep you fuller for longer and positively impact your gut health,&#8221; says Swingle. &#8220;When you feel fuller, you are less likely to eat.&#8221;</p>
<p>Kimszal agrees. &#8220;Adding at least one serving of vegetables to each meal will help to increase your fiber and nutrient intake,&#8221; she says, highlighting that this can help with weight loss.</p>

<p>Swingle shares that one simple way to lose weight before your wedding day is to stop eating out at restaurants those last 30 days leading up to your nuptials. &#8220;This is extremely effective for weight loss, as eating out adds a tremendous amount of calories and sodium without you realizing it,&#8221; she says. &#8220;By reducing how often you eat out, you are reducing the amount of salt retention and calories to help remain in a calorie deficit and help the scale tip back down.&#8221;<span aria-hidden="true" style="display: none">6254a4d1642c605c54bf1cab17d50f1e</span></p>

<p>&#8220;One way to lose weight is by looking at your diet and seeing how much protein you are taking in,&#8221; says Kimszal, noting that you should aim to have lean protein at each meal.</p>
<p>As we&#8217;ve previously reported, to stay fit or lose weight, men who work out for 45 minutes three to five days a week need about 0.45 gram per pound, and women with the same activity level need 0.35 gram per pound. <p>&#8220;Lastly, assessing your hunger on a scale of 1-10 before you eat can help you to lose weight because it forces you to stop and ponder if your body is truly hungry or if you are bored and want food,&#8221; advises Swingle. &#8220;This facilitates weight loss by reducing the amount and how often you eat.&#8221; While you nosh, chew slowly, observe your inner experience, and follow more of these smart habits to promote mind-body connection.</p>
<p>Remember, perspective is key. &#8220;Don&#8217;t let weight loss be your end goal. Focus on how you feel. Do you feel you are more energetic when you get up? That is what is most important,&#8221; says Kimszal. And on your wedding day, feeling energized and excited is far more important than if you squeeze into a smaller suit size or were able to get another inch tailored off the waist of your wedding dress.</p>

<p>When it comes to losing weight, there are various options regarding meal plans and eating habits that are safe for your overall health and also offer the kind of results that will help you reach your goals.</p>
<p>However, some are more effective than others. Indeed, according to new research, <strong>your best bet might be to opt for a vegan diet that doesn&#8217;t focus on restricting calories but does include a fair share of legumes.</strong></p>
<p>A study by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine that was recently published in the <a rel="noopener noreferrer external nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://www.jandonline.org/article/S2212-2672(22)00235-0/fulltext"><em>Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics</em></a> involved 244 participants who were all considered to be overweight. While some kept to their normal diets, others were asked to switch over to a low-fat vegan diet that didn&#8217;t require restricting calories.</p>
<p>After four months, those who stuck with a vegan diet dropped 13 pounds on average while participants who specifically consumed plenty of legumes lost weight and fat mass as well as visceral adipose tissue.</p>

<p>&#8220;Our research shows that the best way to improve the quality of your health is to improve the quality of the foods you eat,&#8221; noted study co-author Hana Kahleova, MD, PhD, director of clinical research at the Physicians Committee, according to <a rel="noopener noreferrer external nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://www.eurekalert.org/news-releases/955318">EurekAlert!</a>. &#8220;That means avoiding animal products and eating a vegan diet rich in fruits, vegetables, grains, and beans.&#8221;</p>
<p>When it comes to why a vegan diet is so effective, <a rel="noopener noreferrer external nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://danaellishunnes.com/">Dana Ellis Hunnes</a>, PhD, MPH, RD senior clinical dietitian at UCLA medical center, assistant professor at UCLA Fielding school of public health, tells <em>Eat This, Not That!</em>, &#8220;It focuses (when it&#8217;s a whole food vegan diet) on unprocessed foods that are high in fiber, vitamins, minerals, plant proteins, and water content. This type of diet is very filling and satiating, so you don&#8217;t realize you&#8217;re eating fewer calories.&#8221;<span aria-hidden="true" style="display: none">6254a4d1642c605c54bf1cab17d50f1e</span></p>
<p>On top of that, Hunnes says &#8220;these foods are anti-inflammatory, lower in calories, and help regulate hormones,&#8221; which &#8220;is good for health and weight loss.&#8221;</p>
<p>As for legumes, Hunnes explains that &#8220;they are incredibly high in fiber and protein which makes them very filling.&#8221; Beyond that, they also &#8220;raise your body temperature during digestion (the thermic effect of food), so you burn more calories to digest them.&#8221;</p>

<p>Last year Raven said that she wanted to focus on her health. When asked what made her want to change, Raven said, &#8220;What made me want to change was her,&#8221; gesturing to her wife, Miranda Pearman-Maday. &#8220;I want to be here for her as long as I can, and I found out some numbers at the doctor that were not pleasant for someone in my age bracket or any age bracket, to be honest with you.&#8221;</p>

Simple carbohydrates from foods such as candy and soda turn into glucose in your bloodstream, contributing to the &#8220;sugar high&#8221; most people experience after consuming such foods. <p>Although losing weight can be a challenge, many people find that the toughest aspect of weight loss is preventing those pounds from creeping back. According to <a rel="noopener noreferrer external nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5764193/">one meta-analysis</a>, more than half of lost weight is regained within two years, and by five years, that number zooms up to 80%.</p>
<p>So, what are those who are successful in keeping the weight off doing right? A <a rel="noopener noreferrer external nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/oby.23372">new study in the journal <em>Obesity</em></a> reveals their top strategies.</p>
<p>Researchers surveyed more than 6,000 participants in a weight-loss program WW who had lost more than 50 pounds and kept it off for over three years. Answering questions about their motivations and tactics, these were the most cited tips. <p>Perseverance was the biggest theme in the survey responses, and also a key method for dealing with inevitable setbacks, according to lead researcher Suzanne Phelan, PhD, in the department of kinesiology and public health at California Polytechnic State University. By having a long-term view, it was much easier to restart quickly instead of giving up the effort to maintain control over consumption levels, she says.</p>

<p>Another notable strategy is not to think about weight at all as a primary motivator. Weight loss maintainers noted that the most important changes were &#8220;non-scale victories&#8221; like reduced pain, better control of chronic medical conditions, feeling a greater sense of confidence as well as more ease in their bodies, and having more consistent energy and lighter moods.</p>

That also helps you pivot toward other healthy changes that have been shown to improve weight loss maintenance, like daily activity, quality sleep, and reduced stress.</p>

<p>Last year was a transformative one for Ree Drummond aka The Pioneer Woman. The star has lost 55 pounds since January 2021, and has since kept it off after she decided she wanted to start before her daughter&#8217;s wedding in May. Little exercise and a hectic work schedule had led the Food Network host to her highest weight ever—but not for long.</p>
<p>In June, she was 43 pounds lighter and explained how cutting calories, building muscle, increasing her protein intake, eating less sugar, eliminating alcohol, logging her weight with an app, and other habits were essential. She admits <a rel="noopener noreferrer external nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://www.thepioneerwoman.com/ree-drummond-life/a38944960/ree-drummond-weight-loss-ten-things-i-learned/">in a new blog post</a> that she thought it would be a final weight loss recap, but she&#8217;s since lost even more pounds and is sharing everything the experience taught her.</p>

<p>Starting in January, Drummond went all-in and focused on the changes like calorie counting and exercising that once the summer came around, felt like daily life.</p>
<p>&#8220;The initial, more intense, stage doesn&#8217;t have to last forever,&#8221; says she is &#8220;glad I&#8217;d been so strict for that first stage, because it wound up being a nice crash course that equipped me going forward. Starting out with that discipline actually allowed me more freedom later in the process.&#8221;</p>

<p>&#8220;I can&#8217;t emphasize this enough,&#8221; Drummond says in the blog post. &#8220;Building muscle—not just the smaller muscles in your arms, but the larger muscles in your legs and butt—will turbo charge your weight loss like nothing else and set you up for more success.&#8221;</p>

<p>Once she started paying more attention not only to <em>what </em>she was putting in her body, but <em>how much</em>, Drummond started breaking the spell. &#8220;I trained my body to get used to smaller—well, I should say more normal—portions,&#8221; she says noting that a year later she is still &#8220;eating all the foods I love, but my body is satisfied with much less of it.&#8221;</p>

She says she swaps sugary, caloric drinks like daiquiris and margaritas and other sweet cocktails for things like Ranch Water—which is clear tequila, lime juice, and sparkling water over ice—or a White Wine Spritzer—made up of a small amount of cold white wine, sparkling water, and lemon slices—because they are more hydrating and help her to not drink as much. Basically, it&#8217;s like having &#8220;two drinks for the calories of one,&#8221; she says.</p>

<p>In addition to building muscle and getting used to exercising, Drummond explains in her blog post that movement every day helped her achieve her goals. After the initial weight loss, she found herself sidetracking from her routine, and was only exercising two or three times a week—but on the days when she wasn&#8217;t, she could feel the difference.</p>
<p>&#8220;So I made sure to stay more committed than ever to using my standing desk, stepping away for frequent breaks, and putting myself in a position to move more,&#8221; she says, noting that little habits like this have stuck. &#8220;Today, I&#8217;m still using a standing desk and not letting myself collect too much dust during the day.&#8221;</p>

<p>The act of stepping on a scale can be triggering, Drummond admits, but seeing the number for her wasn&#8217;t about obsessing over each ounce she wanted to lose. &#8220;Before I decided to lose weight last January, I don&#8217;t think I&#8217;d stepped on a scale for two years,&#8221; she explains. &#8220;I willfully hadn&#8217;t weighed myself because I never wanted to know. Without seeing that number go up over time, it was easy for me to tell myself that it was probably just a few pounds.&#8221;</p>
<p>Instead, it now helps her identify trends in her body. She includes screenshots of her weight tracking via the Happy Scale app. Here&#8217;s what she says about what the habit is like now:</p>
<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m settling in just below the original goal weight I imagined for myself—which, by the way, was intentionally realistic! I wasn&#8217;t striving for pre-marriage, pre-baby, pre-thirties weight! 😊 Just a good weight where I thought I&#8217;d feel and look better, and where I felt I&#8217;d be able to maintain and have longer term success.&#8221;</p>

<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s nothing on my list of banned foods!&#8221; Drummond says about her life after weight loss. Yep—nothing! Like the first lesson she learned, the first few months of 2021 were stricter in terms of her diet of a few sugary foods and no alcohol consumption. Now she follows two thoughts—&#8221;First, my portions are much more reasonable. Second, I do still pay attention to the daily proportions I&#8217;m devoting to both high protein foods and foods with wasted calories.&#8221;</p>

<p>Drummond says in her blog post that she looks at some foods now as calories that aren&#8217;t as beneficial and nutritional as others. These &#8220;wasted calorie&#8221; foods include sugary soft drinks, cookies, cake, potato chips, donuts, and other similar foods. Now she tries to think of eating a &#8220;Rhode Island&#8221; sized portion of these foods instead of a &#8220;Texas&#8221; size.<span aria-hidden="true" style="display: none">6254a4d1642c605c54bf1cab17d50f1e</span></p>
<p>&#8220;Using the doughnut as an example, some days I eat half the doughnut. Some days I decide not to eat the doughnut. Other days I&#8217;ll pinch off a bite of the doughnut. Heck, there will be a day now and then when I will eat the whole doughnut,&#8221; she says, noting that &#8220;There&#8217;s no hard and fast rule, but I&#8217;m just more mindful of it now.&#8221;</p>

<p>While 53-year-old says her daughter&#8217;s wedding in May was a great motivational tool for her initial weight loss, Drummond says that being steady with adding in more exercise and controlling portion sizes, and changing how she eats is easier than focusing all efforts on one thing.</p>
<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve been able to experience different approaches: building muscle, eating more protein, moving/standing more, exercising on the rowing machine, logging my daily weight, etc.&#8221; she explains. Doing this has allowed her more control over the changes that come with life.</p>

<p>The star hesitates to say her weight loss was a &#8220;lifestyle change&#8221; because she never wanted to change her lifestyle. Instead, she says the experience has been a sort of perspective shift on portion sizes, movement, protein intake, and more, as she sees those things differently a year later.</p>
<p>She then shares a before and after picture, not to label one as &#8220;bad&#8221; and the other as &#8220;good&#8221;, but because &#8220;it is helpful for me to see the distance I&#8217;ve come, and to know that the changes have been good for me,&#8221; she says.</p>
<p>Her lifestyle is the same—she is doing the exact same things every day like &#8220;living on the ranch, filming my cooking show, working on cookbooks and my product line, and being a wife and slightly weird mom&#8221; as she was a year ago. The only difference is her weight loss and the lessons she has learned!</p>
<p>&#8220;Today I feel stronger, more in balance (both physically and mentally), and I have more spring to my step. I am wearing clothes I wasn&#8217;t comfortable wearing a year ago, I feel better about the way I look, and I&#8217;m smiling more,&#8221; she ends the post staying. &#8220;But to come full circle…it hasn&#8217;t changed my life itself. I still have cow manure in my yard, for example. It&#8217;s on top of snow, and it&#8217;s ruining the dreamy winter vibe. 😂 Gotta go clean that up now, but at least that&#8217;ll help me get out and move!&#8221;</p>

<p>I am 36 years old, and I would say 27 years of my life have been spent in a battle with my weight. You name the diet—I have probably tried it… more than once and failed at it. Nothing ever came easy, nothing ever made sense. I would try something new and get bored of it—which then led to gaining even more weight.</p>
<p>Growing up I was made to feel bad about myself because of my weight and eating habits. I would be forced into certain diets that never made me feel good. They left me feeling either sick, starving, or extremely bloated. There was never a consistent pattern in any of the &#8220;diets&#8221; I was on. It was either eat a pound of broccoli and fish, or you can eat greasy burgers and mayo but no bun. How was any of that sustainable or going to make me be able to lose weight the healthy way? It wasn&#8217;t.</p>
<p>All the other diets I have been on have always been about losing weight and never taught me the value of nutrition and healthy eating.</p>
<p>In 2018 I became the unhealthiest I&#8217;ve ever been. I am a wife, and a mom of two amazing boys. I would eat fast food four or five times a week and then throw out the bags to hide the evidence from my family. I had become lazy in making healthy meals that I would just throw together without thinking of nutrition. I had fallen back into so many bad habits that led to me feeling sad all day long. I hated the way I looked, how I felt, and, more importantly, the path I was heading down.</p>
<h2>The power of portion control</h2>
<p>November 2018 is when my life changed forever. It was when I asked for help and was introduced to The Ultimate Portion Fix program. I needed to know what people were doing to get these amazing results. I needed to know all about it—NOW!</p>

<p>I jumped in. I watched all the Ultimate Portion Fix videos, read all the program materials, and used the workbooks and logbooks provided. There was no cutting out carbs or fruits like so many &#8220;diets&#8221; make you do. This made sense. There was no weighing my food or counting calories. <strong>I didn&#8217;t have to give up foods that I love, I just had to pick healthier versions and proper portion sizes</strong>—something we all know but are never fully aware of not to do—until now I wish I would have known about this years ago—but what was important was that I had the tools I needed now.</p>
<p>The first few days I measured, and I prepared meals ahead of time. Did I have doubts? Of course! I had doubts this was going to work for me—because nothing in the past had. But I continued to measure, I continued to portion my meals and eat exactly how I was supposed to.</p>
<p>My cravings for sugar slowly went away and it got easier. I was learning to cook healthy meals for my family! I realized this wasn&#8217;t like anything I had ever done. I was able to eat all the food I normally would, but now <strong>I was using these containers as my guide, and they taught me how to eat all over again</strong>.</p>
<h2>Find your &#8216;why&#8217; and lose the pounds</h2>
<p>In one year, I lost 110 pounds following Autumn&#8217;s Portion Fix program and pushing play on her workouts. I used the tools that were given to me and followed them. There were no shortcuts, there was no easy way out. I knew I needed to change my old habits to see new results—long-lasting results.</p>
<p>When it got hard, I would remember her talking about our &#8220;whys.&#8221; Why was I doing this? To lose weight and be healthy. Why did I NEED to do this? Because I didn&#8217;t want to die young. I wanted to grow old with my husband and watch my boys grow up. Those answers are ALWAYS in the back of my head.</p>
<p>My boys watch me push play to Autumn&#8217;s workout programs every day and see me have fun doing it! I can make them delicious, healthy meals, and what is even more amazing is that they are aware of making healthy choices. They used to watch me sit around on a couch all day feeling sad and eating junk food. Today, they have the best version of me and it&#8217;s all because of those 6 amazing containers.</p>

<p>Most of us know losing weight requires some discipline… but have you ever imagined how challenging it would be if your job was to develop <em>and</em> test new dishes every single day? Gordon Ramsay, who&#8217;s just launched a new partnership with Tide to encourage you to live smarter by washing your clothes in cold water, is getting personal about his recent weight loss. In an exclusive interview with <em>Eat This, Not That!,</em> Ramsay reveals four massive diet and lifestyle shifts he made to lose 50 pounds, and how he&#8217;s maintained his goal for three years and counting.</p>
<p>In 2019, Ramsay and his wife, Tana, welcomed their youngest child. That was shortly after the <em>Kitchen Nightmares</em> star had shared with a U.K. publication that he&#8217;d undergone a <a rel="noopener noreferrer external nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-5320041/Gordon-Ramsay-lost-four-stone-wife.html">weight loss</a> mission for the sake of his marriage. &#8220;I look at the pictures and think, &#8216;How did Tana stay around?'&#8221; he said, adding: &#8220;Tana has got better-looking and more gorgeous.&#8221;</p>
<p>These days, it sounds like two-year-old Oscar is the only one in the Ramsay household who, shall we say, doesn&#8217;t eat &#8220;clean.&#8221; The chef hints that life is busy at home, though he enjoys pitching in with the family. (In our conversation about Tide&#8217;s #TurnToClean initiative, we asked him the last time he needed to deal with stain removal. &#8220;The last thing . . . that ended up on my clothes was some pasta I was feeding Oscar,&#8221; he said.)</p>
<p>He continued: &#8220;Good thing I&#8217;m partnering with Tide to help keep my chef whites and my clothes at home as clean and crisp as possible. When I saw how Tide was able to deliver a superior clean even in cold water, I was convinced. I am now committed to washing in cold—when washing on cold with Tide, you use 90% less energy and, in the U.S., it saves you up to $150 in energy bills a year while extending the life of your clothes. A secret my wife Tana kept from me!&#8221;</p>

<p>On the biggest nutrition change he made to get leaner, Ramsay tells us, &#8220;I just ate more efficiently and healthier. I ate more fatty acids like salmon.&#8221;</p>
<p>We&#8217;ve long touted the benefits of adding in fish for weight loss. Salmon, in particular, is filled with omega-3 fatty acids that contribute to satiety.</p>

<p>Ramsay also reveals that in the process of adding more beneficial fats to his diet, he also cut down his intake of dairy significantly, &#8220;I found that cutting dairy out in coffees and teas made me feel more energized.&#8221;</p>

<p>Ramsay adds that exercise is a top priority each day. &#8220;My mornings . . . [are] when I always work out,&#8221; he says. &#8220;I just try to work out on shoot days or when I&#8217;m in the kitchen early in the morning so I&#8217;m energized throughout the day.&#8221;</p>

<p>A successful career in the music industry comes with serious pressure, Adele said, mentioning that at one point in recent years, she even told her manager: &#8220;This isn&#8217;t really for me.&#8221;</p>
<p>Plus, in 2019, Adele announced that she and her then-husband, Simon Konecki, had separated. In March of this year, their divorce was finalized.</p>
<p>It sounds like all these factors combined spurred Adele, 33, to place a very intentional focus on her wellbeing—particularly, her mental health. Of her 100-pound weight loss, she&#8217;s reflected in the new issue of <em>Vogue</em>: &#8220;It was never about losing weight. It was always about becoming stronger and giving myself as much time every day without my phone. I got quite addicted to it.&#8221;</p>

<p>These days, Adele told <em>Vogue</em>, &#8220;I work out two or three times a day.&#8221; She said her day starts with weights, then in the afternoons she goes on a hike or does some boxing.</p>
<p>Many nights, she said, she does cardio. (<em>Vogue</em> revealed the singer is a fan of the elliptical machine.)</p>

<p>Adele credited her trainer, Gregg Miele, with her ongoing inspiration to stay active. As <em>Vogue</em> noted, &#8220;Adele says that she has probably spent more time with Miele in the last three years than anyone else.&#8221;</p>

<p>Adele says to be clear, she didn&#8217;t restrict herself from the foods she loves. &#8220;If anything, I eat more than I used to because I work out so hard,&#8221; she said in the interview.</p>
<p>A favorite she still enjoys is the occasional drink… specifically, rosé or an Aperol spritz. But Adele says these days, she tries to be more mindful about her drinking than she was in her younger years.</p>
<p>She said Amy Winehouse&#8217;s death forced her to think about how the media would portray her if she didn&#8217;t take control of her own behaviors. &#8220;I&#8217;m not having these people I don&#8217;t know take my legacy, my story away from me, and decide what I can leave behind or what I can take with me,&#8221; Adele said.</p>

<p>&#8220;I lost 20 pounds this year after gaining weight during Covid. I decided to try an Isagenix program, even though I was hesitant because of the price. It was a tough 30-day regiment and I had to completely change the way I was eating. I cut out dairy, red meat, alcohol, and in the first 30 days I lost 14 pounds.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;I decided to continue the plan but phased a few alcoholic drinks in here and there (just clear alcohol like vodka or tequila if I went out with friends). In May, I lost another 6 pounds.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;It really taught me to eat differently in a sustainable way. I can now go into a restaurant and know what to order. <p>&#8220;The biggest thing with my weight loss was getting my diet under control. Previously, every burger was a double cheeseburger, every scoop of potatoes and cheese had a second one behind it. Dessert was a &#8216;yes, please!&#8217; But I realized no amount of exercise can undo this.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;I also found intermittent fasting to be a game-changer for me. It turns your body off fat-creation mode and puts it into fat-burning mode.&#8221;</p>

<p>&#8220;I also eat all of my veggies and proteins first and then if I am still hungry, add carbs. Lastly, and the biggest change for my journey was daily exercise. <p>&#8220;My buddies and I actually made a bet to see who could get in shape the fastest. I know it may sound strange, but I believe that to achieve your health goals, you have to make it about something bigger than you. <p>&#8220;I started with power walking every morning, 6 days a week—rain, heatwave, or shine. To amp that up, I threw in taking the stairs more. Walking in the door with a sweat is key after every walk.&#8221;</p>
