According to Mind, a mental health charity in England and Wales, 1 in 5 students has a diagnosed mental health problem. This manifests itself in a number of different manners and there can be a number of different reasons why these issues surface. Going to university often brings about massive changes in students’ lives, causing uncertainty, additional stress, and many other emotions, and this can often be especially exasperated by the fact that many students first go off to university coming into the winter.

Most of us have experience in the fact that the cold, dingy, grey days of winter can be detrimental to our mental health, and therefore it is especially important for universities to help their students with their mental health during the winter. That does not mean, however, that they should not be focusing on it for the rest of the year, but an extra effort should be made during the winter months to enable students to both settle in effectively and also prosper whilst they are at university.

When it comes to the role that universities can play in offering mental health support to their students, there is plenty that can be done. Universities are not only formal educational institutions, but they are also central in producing independent individuals, many of whom are stepping away from the family unit for the first time, living new experiences, and helping to shape their futures in many ways.

Communication, Efficiency, And Reliability

It is important that universities understand the way their behaviour impacts students and their mental health. By adding extra stress and pressure on their students, this can have a detrimental effect on their mental health. Communication has been especially important during the pandemic, and universities that fail to fulfil their duties in terms of good communication with their students, behaving efficiently, and reliably, can find that they increase anxiety amongst their students.

It is vital that students are clear about what is expected from them – as well as what they can expect from their university – and that the university fulfils these expectations.

Help To Deal With The Issues

Many students come up against the same issues when they go to university. These issues can turn into mental health problems if they are not dealt with early on. Another way that universities can help their students to reduce the chance of mental health problems such as low mood and anxiety is to help them to avoid these issues in the first place. For example, giving students advice and support in looking after their finances can help them to avoid financial difficulties which can often lead to mental health problems.

Encouraging Peer Relationships And Support

Support does not need to necessarily come from the institution itself. Often students will support each other through difficult times and universities should be doing what they can to encourage peer relationships and friendships. As well as promoting anti-bullying policies, providing safe spaces, promoting team-working, kindness, and generally creating a positive, supporting environment.

Mental Health Support Schemes

Mental health support schemes such as helplines and counsellors should be available to all students. It is key that every student has access to these services and they should all be made aware of what is available and how to get this help. Universities should encourage their students to use these services and promote them as much as possible.

Additionally, universities can provide their students with out of education support services which are hugely beneficial for students looking to step away from campus life. Speaking as a former student, knowing there were healthcare services outside of my university campus that I could go to for mental health support was incredibly comforting. Helping Hands Home Care who provide professional mental health care support, state that “Being diagnosed with a mental illness can be life-changing but doesn’t necessarily mean loss of independence.”

Red Flags

Increasingly, universities are able to look for behavioural patterns and red flags in student behaviour that are signs that a student is struggling with their mental health. Signs such as a decrease of engagement, withdrawal from student life, or changes in attitude can be tell-tale signs that a student is having mental health problems. These signs can be picked up on by tutors and mentors, other students, or technological means, helping potential problems to be dealt with earlier.

The issue of student mental health should be central to every decision that is made within an educational institution. Universities have a duty to support their students as much as they possibly can, especially during the winter, nurturing the best environment for their students to learn effectively, as well as leaving the institution a well-rounded, mentally healthy individual.

“In the depths of winter I finally learned there was in me an invincible summer.”
Albert Camus

“If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.”
Anne Bradstreet

Up here in Sweden the winter is dark, cold and often comes with a mix of rain and snow.

And spring is still far away.

It is not easy to keep the energy and optimism up like in the bright and warm summer days.

So today I’d like to share 7 habits I use that make it a lot easier to stay positive even throughout this dark and often grey season.

1. Find one of your biggest energy sucks.

Ask yourself: What is the biggest energy suck in my life right now?

You may for example find that it is a person in your life that is very negative.

Or that the report that you have been meaning to finish for a month now is dragging you down.

Then you follow that up with asking:

What is one thing I can do about this?

Maybe you decide that you want stop hanging out with that person. Or at least spend less of the time you have in a week with him or her and more of that time with the people that give you the most energy.

Perhaps you can just set off 5 minutes today to get started again with finishing your report.

For some energy sucks there might not be a simple solution. Or a solution at all, at least at this time.

Then you may want to find one of the lesser leaks in your life that you can actually do something about.

Take a few minutes or half an hour out of your day to plug just one of these biggest leaks and you’ll have more energy to spend on what truly matters to you.

2. Be grateful for the small things and the things you may sometimes take for granted.

When I’m looking out the window over the dark and rainy landscape in the morning it is easy to forget about the things I actually have.

Things like:

A roof over my head and a warm home.

Clean water.

Three steady meals every day.

I have found that zooming out on my perspective like this helps out a lot to snap out of any kind of victim thinking and negativity.

3. Vitamin D supplements.

For the past few winters I’ve been taking Vitamin D supplements each day and I’ve found them to give back quite a bit of the energy I tend to lose during a long winter.

A few people close to me are also taking them and are reporting similar positive effects in varying degrees.

4. Go outside for 3-5 minutes first thing in the morning.

This is my favorite new and daily habit in the past few months.

I first heard about it from the popular Huberman Lab Podcast by Andrew Huberman, a professor in neuroscience at Stanford University. And I’ve since learned that Tim Ferriss and several others have also adopted this habit recently from Huberman.

I’ve found that simply going out on our porch for 3-5 minutes in the morning first thing after the sun has come up – at around nine o’clock here in Sweden right now – helps me to truly wake up and feel much more alert and energetic during my day.

When I am out on the porch I just look out at the sky and the view for a few minutes. And as my eyes are exposed to the sunlight – even if it is a cloudy day – several processes are activated in my body that will help me to be more alert during the day but also help me to get better sleep (according to Huberman’s podcast).

I haven’t personally noticed much difference in my sleep but that one was already working pretty well for me.

5. A light-therapy lamp.

I’ve been using a light-therapy lamp for a couple of winters and it has had some pretty big effects (I have more energy and it makes it easier to keep the optimism up).

So far this winter I have not felt much need to use it as going outside for my morning light – as mentioned in the previous tip – has had such a big and positive effect.

But the winter is not over yet so I may start using it later on as an extra booster in the mornings.

6. Exercise.

An obvious but a very effective one.

Regular exercise – I lift weights every other day nowadays – will give you more energy. It will help you to release inner tensions, anxiety and stress.

And so it will be easier to stay relaxed, positive and to think clearly with less overthinking and to act decisively.

7. Take action and move forward.

Few things create so much frustration, worries and anxiety as sitting on your hands and doing nothing.

So even though it might be a little extra tough to get started or to keep going with your dreams and goals during this season remind yourself that if you do you will replace those feelings and thoughts above with optimism and self-confidence.

And remember that you do not have to go forward in big or quick leaps.

The most important thing is simply that you move forward. Even if it is by just taking one small or slow step after another.

Because those steps will quickly add up over the weeks even if they may not look so impressive in themselves.

Socializing outside is a safe way to see your loved ones without contracting COVID-19, but that isn’t easy to do in the winter. Brides have an especially frustrating challenge if they want to host their ceremony during snowy months. This guide explains eight tips for planning a winter wedding during COVID-19 so you don’t have to worry about everyone’s safety while coordinating the wedding of your dreams.

1. Check Local Requirements Weekly

As variants emerge, city and state governments will adapt their rules regarding large gatherings. Keep up-to-date with the requirements that affect your venue’s location. Check the city’s website or social media accounts to find the latest information that could affect your wedding. If anything changes, you’ll know how many guests are allowed to gather indoors and whether you need to worry about postponing your ceremony.

2. Minimize Your Guest List

Weddings are traditionally large events, but you don’t have to invite everyone you’ve ever known. Creating a small guest list minimizes the risk of making your ceremony into a hotspot event. Add the people within your inner circle to your list and avoid inviting people like co-workers or long-lost friends you don’t get along with.

3. Find A Fire Pit

If people can keep warm outside, they can get fresh air at your wedding and reduce potential virus exposure indoors. Compare rental fire pits, patio heaters, or warming stations and set them up around your venue to invest in everyone’s safety.

4. Remember Your Self-Care Routine

Worrying about the state of the world can distract people from habits that support their well-being, especially when they’re also planning a wedding. Take care of yourself to nourish your physical and mental health.

Consider adding helpful habits to your daily routine like hydrating lotions, a vitamin regimen and an exercise plan. You can start any time, but starting these habits a few months to a year before your wedding will help you look and feel your best long before walking down the aisle.

5. Request Disposable Drinkware

People often set their drinks aside at weddings to have fun on the dance floor. Other people might pick up their identical glasses and accidentally share drinks without realizing it. Ask your bartender to use disposable drinkware to avoid this problem. You’ll get your custom cocktails and guests can label their cups with markers.

6. Provide Matching Masks

COVID-19 has a much more difficult time infecting people who wear masks in group settings. Provide matching masks for your guests to wear during your ceremony and reception. They can color-coordinate with other favors like gloves or blankets and double as reusable gifts for your guests after they go back home.

7. Point Out Testing Centers

Even with all of these precautions, your guests might still feel nervous gathering for a big event. When creating your invitations or wedding date reminder cards, include information about testing centers near your venue. Everyone can get a rapid test on the morning of your wedding and rest assured that no one got positive results before coming to your ceremony.

8. Establish A Virtual Link

In addition to inviting guests for in-person attendance, stream your wedding with video conferencing software or websites designed for live events. Anyone who can’t make it due to illness or inclement winter weather can still be part of your big day without putting themselves or others at risk.

Planning Your Winter Wedding During COVID-19

The pandemic complicates many traditional events, but it doesn’t have to make wedding planning feel impossible. Use these eight tips for planning a wedding during COVID-19 to keep everyone safe and healthy. Taking care of your physical wellness, providing masks, and even establishing outdoor warming stations are just a few ways to make everyone comfortable during your big day.

Winter is here again, and with it, those dreary days and overwhelming urges to nap — or at least find the nearest cup of coffee.

This winter, don’t give in to the desire to sleep the day away. Learn why your body is worn out during the cold months and understand how you can prevent it. Here’s how to get more sleep:

1. Less Sunlight

The days are noticeably shorter, and the nights are longer during this time of year. Often, you wake in the dark, making it difficult to truly get up. Because our bodies depend on sunlight to set our circadian rhythm and determine when we should sleep and wake, winter is an especially tricky time.

During the day, the brain inhibits melatonin production, helping you stay awake and focused. Take advantage of the reduced levels of sunshine during the winter. Open your blinds immediately upon awakening, or go outside for a walk during lunch. Even if it’s a cloudy day, you can still benefit.

2. The Impulse To Rest

You’ll feel tired because winter puts your circadian rhythm out of whack, prompting you to sleep more. Sleeping too much can leave you feeling groggy, especially if you’ve already hit your required seven or more hours of sleep for the night.

When you nap, take care not to rest longer than 20 minutes or do so after 3 p.m. Napping longer or later can interfere with your natural sleep cycle. Also, consider creating a restful environment to sleep, including picking out comfortable pillows that match your sleeping position. Before you lay down to nap, ensure you’re aware of your body to limit any muscle tension or strain.

3. Heavier Meals

If you find yourself sleeping more in the winter, heavier meals might be to blame. Researchers found that during the holiday months, Americans can gain 5 pounds on average. If the weight gain itself isn’t alarming enough, there is a correlation between the bigger meals we eat during the holidays and disrupted sleep.

Foods that are higher in fat or sugar tend to impact our sleep patterns the most. High levels of alcohol can also disrupt sleep, causing you to feel tired throughout the day. During the holidays, try limiting your portion size and alcohol intake. If you know you’re going to have a big meal later, try to plan for it earlier in the day.

4. Holiday Stress

While the holidays can add a lot of fun to the mundane, they can also add a great deal of stress. This can be a significant sleep disrupter, keeping you up into the early hours of the night with racing thoughts of all the tasks you need to accomplish the coming day. After a few nights like this, you could find yourself experiencing symptoms like sleep deprivation and fatigue.

Try managing your stress before bed through mediation and mindfulness techniques like focused breathing, the body scan and guided imagery. Reading a book or listening to music could also help you relax and get comfortable before sleeping.

5. Bad Weather And Less Exercise

The winter months might prove a challenge if you like to exercise outdoors. It may not be easy to get outside to walk, run or bike as you usually would due to shorter days and worsening weather. Exercising less is proven to give you reduced energy throughout the day.

The best way to counteract this effect is to set up an exercise routine and stick to it. Try exercising for 20 minutes right away after waking up. If you’d rather not go out in the nasty weather, consider getting a gym membership for the winter, or find an exercise video on YouTube. Keep your habit going until it becomes a routine.

6. Bedroom Temperature

People tend to turn up their thermostats when it’s cold. Often, a warmer bedroom harms your quality of sleep. The ideal temperature to which you should set your thermostat is 65 F because your circadian rhythm shifts during a 24-hour cycle. At night, your body begins to shed warmth and continues cooling until 5 a.m.

If you don’t want to have disrupted sleep due to your circadian rhythm, it’s best to keep your bedroom temperature lower — at least between 60 and 67 F.

Get Enough Sleep This Winter

Now that you understand why your body is more tired during the winter, you’ll be prepared to better care for yourself. Start planning your exercise routine, lower your bedroom temperature and commit to healthy portion control during holiday meals. Doing these things will ensure you get enough sleep this season.

With temperatures rapidly getting cooler, it’s natural to lament the shorter days, the need to bundle up, and the sudden dearth of opportunities for outdoor recreation. However, that’s not the only thing you might be worried about as winter creeps closer: for many people, colder weather and less time spent outside make weight gain feel practically inevitable.

It’s not just a lack of outdoor exercise that could be causing the numbers on the scale to move in the wrong direction, though. Read on to discover which winter foods could be causing you to pack on the pounds, according to dietitians. And if you’re ready to shed a few pounds, check out these 15 Underrated Weight Loss Tips That Actually Work.

Shutterstock

From the treats being passed around your office to the homemade snacks your family sends you during the holiday season, cookies are a major source of weight gain in the winter months.

“Most cookies are made with refined flour and sugar, both of which result in an increase in blood sugar. This subsequently causes an increase in insulin which is a fat-storing hormone,” explains Elise Harlow, MS, RD, owner of The Flourished Table.

There’s nothing like enjoying a warm bowl of soup on a cold day—but if those soups are cream-based, it may not be long before you find yourself dealing with major weight gain.

“Soups are a great winter food and usually an amazing way to sneak in extra veggies into your diet. However, they can quickly become detrimental to your waistline if you keep choosing the ones made with heavy cream,” cautions Paula Doebrich, MPH, RDN, owner of Happea Nutrition. “Try to opt for lighter, vegetable-based soups to avoid unwanted weight gain,” Doebrich recommends.

While latkes may be a staple at your Hanukkah celebration, these deep-fried potato pancakes are a major contributor to winter weight gain if you end up eating them throughout the month.

“Try to reduce the intake of those foods and opt for healthy choices like baked potatoes instead,” says Doebrich.

Whether you prefer pumpkin, apple, or pecan, pie is a high-calorie food that’s typically low in fiber or protein that might otherwise keep you full—meaning you might find yourself going back for seconds or even thirds.

“While one slice here and there is unlikely causing you to gain weight, having too much of these sweet treats will show over time,” says Doebrich. If you do opt to indulge, “Try to choose pies with minimal added sugar,” Doebrich recommends.

Shutterstock

From baked mac and cheese to green beans with fried onions on top, holiday casseroles are typically loaded with calories and fat, making it easy to gain weight if these are on your holiday menu.

“In general, as we approach the colder months, people tend to crave more comforting foods such as mac and cheese and cheesy casseroles,” says Doebrich. “Combined with reduced physical activity during the winter months, it is not surprising that a few pounds are expected to be gained.”

Winter gets cold, even in LA! Our immune system has to work extra hard during the cold and flu season. My secrets to thriving during the colder months include warming, immunity boosting, and delicious hot drinks.

Golden Mylk

Also known as a turmeric latte, this drink is better than any pill when it comes to fighting inflammation! Turmeric is good for the immune system but it also makes the skin glow, and helps with digestion. The health benefits of turmeric are enhanced by adding black pepper to it. This combination might not sound initially appealing, but I promise you will love this golden mylk!

Ingredients:

1 cup of unsweetened almond milk (or any other milk you like)

1 teaspoon of turmeric

pinch of fresh ground black pepper

¼ teaspoon of cinnamon

¼ teaspoon of vanilla

¼ teaspoon of ginger powder

1 teaspoon of maple syrup, coconut sugar or any other sweetener

Directions:

pour the milk into a pot and add all ingredients.

Whisk together until all ingredients are well combined

Keep stirring until the milk is hot

Pour into a mug, get your blanket and chill

Mascha’s Magic Potion

This superfood blend is a perfect digestive aid. It includes matcha powder which is high in antioxidants and can help your system fight any seasonal bugs. Blended with other functional, powerful ingredients this drink is guaranteed to keep you glowing even when it is grey and cold outside!

Ingredients:

1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or any other milk you like)

1 teaspoon of turmeric powder

1 teaspoon of matcha powder

½ teaspoon of chaga mushroom powder

½ teaspoon of cacao powder

a dash of cinnamon

1 teaspoon of agave nectar for sweetness

Directions:

Pour milk into a pot and cook on medium heat

Whisk the powder into warm almond milk

For a smoother texture, you can pour the mixture into blender and mix for a minute

Enjoy

Elevated Hot Chocolate

Hot chocolate is the ultimate comfort drink of winter. It brings back childhood memories and makes you feel cozy. Believe it or not, chocolate can be healthy! Cocoa is rich in antioxidants and can even boost brain health. I love blending maca root into my hot chocolate. Maca root is considered an ‘adaptogen’, which means that it can help the body naturally adapt to stressors. It may also help to balance hormones. The cinnamon and agave balance the flavors out nicely in this elevated version of a classic favorite.

Ingredients:

1 cup light coconut milk

2 heaping teaspoons of cocoa powder

1 teaspoon of maca root powder

1-2 teaspoons coconut sugar or agave nectar

dash of cinnamon

Directions:

Heat up the milk in a pot

Stir in all other ingredients

Whisk until the drink has a smooth texture

I hope these delicious drinks help you power through winter without getting run down!

Wondering what to do when you’re bored in the winter?

Beautiful as the winter landscape is with the snow and hoarfrost, its effects on road travel can limit your options for fun.

And freezing temperatures can restrict some of your favorite outdoor activities.

As you’ll see in our list of 29 wintertime hobbies, though, those limits are nothing compared to the options you still have — many of which result in creations worth keeping or sharing with others.

Whether you create treasured items or learn something new that can change your life, you owe it to yourself to consider the options.

29 Winter Hobbies You Must Try

You might already have what you need for some of the following hobbies, while others will require a shopping trip (online or in-person).

If you feel pulled in a specific direction, go with it and see where it leads.

Best Winter Hobbies for Adults

Whether you’re staying in or finding a quiet corner in your favorite public spot, these winter hobbies are ideal for staying warm when you’re spending time alone.

1. Taking Online Classes

Check out the offerings on Masterclass, Udemy, and Skillshare and find something that piques your interest. Browse their categories or use their search field to narrow down your options.

Who knows what your next class might lead to?

2. Tackling Home Improvement Project

Think of projects around your home that you’ve put off because you didn’t have the time (or you did, but you just weren’t feeling it).

Set a timer for a chunk of time and tackle a project on your “do it later” list. See how much you can accomplish before your time is up.

3. Playing Chess or Other Board Games

Maybe you’ve always wanted to learn chess. Or perhaps you’re more interested in other board games. As long as you have a game partner who’s as keen on playing as you are, you can spend hours enjoying it together.

4. Watching Documentaries

Search YouTube for “documentary,” and you’ll find more than enough to keep you busy.

Better yet, narrow down the options by adding a search term (like “plant-based,” “aliens,” or whatever comes to mind. Then grab a hot drink and settle in.

5. Listening to Podcasts

If you’re not sure what podcasts to listen to, try searching for “best podcasts” plus whatever category interests you, whether that’s parenting, marriage, sports, nutrition, health, economics, politics, or something else. Try starting your day with a short episode.

6. Learning a New Language

With an app like Duolingo or Babbel, you can practice a new language every day, having fun while you pick up new vocabulary, parts of speech, and common phrases, as well as read stories and build a learning streak you won’t want to break.

7. Making Vision Boards

Learn how to create your own vision board. From there, you can either create new ones for different themes or even throw a vision board party for family members and close friends. If you’re not keen on messy projects, you can even make one online.

8. Volunteering Online

Check out all the options for volunteering online and pick something that interests you.

Choose the impact you want to make and do what you can to serve a cause you believe in. When volunteering in person isn’t an option, you can still do good things.

9. Watching TED Talks

Skim the offerings on their home page or search specific topics to narrow down your options. You can also sign up for “TED Recommends” to receive emails with tailor-made suggestions based on your interests.

10. Creating a Fitness Plan

Think about where you want to be in a year or three to six months from now and make a plan based on what you know you’ll be able to stick with and what works.

If you’re still learning about the second thing, consider joining an educational fitness app like FitOn.

11. Learning to Play a Musical Instrument

You can find online tutorials on YouTube and elsewhere (Udemy, etc.) if you’d like to learn to play a musical instrument, whether that’s the piano, the ukelele, the tin whistle, or something else.

Start small and go for mastery and rhythm over speed.

Indoor Hobbies for Winter

It’s no surprise most (if not all) these hobbies are best for indoors, but some feel more indoorsy than others. Look through these and imagine yourself cozy and entertained.

12. Journaling

A journaling hobby can easily become a daily journaling habit, which gives you a place to articulate your thoughts and feelings, prepare for an important conversation, plan a new project, or create lists that help you get things done.

13. Starting a Blog

Your blog doesn’t have to be a professional, self-hosted blog, though it can be. Make it whatever you want it to be.

You can start small and use it as an online journal or choose a popular niche and build a blog that could generate a side income.

14. Writing Stories or Poems

Write down some of those stories circulating in your head and develop them into finished works others will enjoy reading. Then, take a risk and submit your best work to writing contests. Or submit them for publication with a magazine or literary journal.

15.Reading

If you’re interested in joining a book club, but you’d rather enjoy the benefits from home, there are plenty of online options and even apps like Reese’s Book Club. Or look up book recommendations by Oprah, Bill Gates, or Barack Obama.

16. Cooking or Baking

Experimenting in the kitchen is a fun way to pass the time. And if you can eat the results — and enjoy them — so much the better. Find some recipes you’d like to try and see what happens. Try to add a new menu item every week, and enjoy the variety.

17. Coding

There are plenty of ways to learn computer languages online, either by taking an online class, learning through sites like w3schools.com, or taking classes with your local school district or at a community college. Learn to design your own interactive website.

18. Decluttering and Organizing

Read or listen to The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo or check out 10-Minute Declutter: The Stress-Free Habit for Simplifying Your Home. Make your home all you want it to be by removing what doesn’t serve you and making what you love more visible.

19. Scrapbooking

Gather up all those family pictures or snaps from your latest trip and create memory books with your favorites, using keepsake albums and carefully chosen pages and added details. Create works of art the people in your family will treasure for decades.

20. Studying Philosophy

If you’re not sure what you believe, spend some time studying the works of those who knew and published their own.

The more you expose yourself to different philosophies, the more you think about your own.

21. Playing Video Games

With the wide variety of video games to choose from — whether on the internet or using a gaming platform like Xbox or Wii — you can easily spend hours playing solo or with a fellow gamer. A simple internet search can help you find recommendations for each genre.

22. Starting a YouTube Channel

If you’re comfortable with vlogging or creating screen-based videos, why not start a YouTube channel to share your knowledge or reach out to a specific community. Researching YouTube niches can help you choose one with a solid chance at popularity.

23. Yoga

Whether you learn it from a video, an app, or a local class, yoga is one hobby that will benefit you for as long as you practice it — improving your muscle tone and flexibility while it helps you calm yourself, whatever the day brings.

25. Building a Ham Radio

Amateur radios (“ham radios”) are a popular pastime for many and offer a break from smartphones and the internet.

Once assembled, they can pick up radio signals from your neighborhood, all around the world, or even from space.

26. Stone Carving

Create stone figurines for your own chess set or another favorite board game. Or create small, polished keepsake figures for friends and family. The more you learn, the better able you’ll be to choose the best stones and create long-lasting treasures.

27. Home Brewing (Beer)

Brew your own beer at home using a kit and easy-to-find ingredients. Try your hand at different recipes for lagers, ales, and stouts, and once you find your favorites, it’s up to you to decide whether you’ll share any of it.

28. Leather Working

Create belts, bags, jewelry, decor, clothing, or book covers. Or use your developing skill to upholster chairs and stools with tanned and treated leather.

If you’d rather avoid using animal hides, you can start your own line of faux leather crafts.

29. Metalworking

Working with metal, you can create large objects like sculptures or smaller items like decorative hinges, metal figures, or even jewelry. Try your hand at whatever appeals to you, using the metals best suited to the project.
