Most women are aware of “classic” menopause symptoms such as hot flashes. Yet menopause is a unique experience for everyone, and no two women experience menopause the same way. In fact, there is a whole list of unusual symptoms that can point to menopause that you might never have heard of!

Before we dive into that list, a note: If you think that you might be going through menopause, it’s still important to see your doctor to get your symptoms checked out and rule out potential underlying causes. For instance, multiple symptoms on this list can also be a sign of hyperthyroidism. Even if you do turn out to “just” be going through menopause, it’s still worthwhile to see a doctor so you can get relief for your symptoms and improve your quality of life. We know more about menopause than ever before and there are lots of menopause relief products and therapies available.

Without further ado, here are 17 uncommon menopause signs that every woman should know about:

1. Cold Flashes

Hot flashes are much more common, but it’s not unheard of to get cold flashes during menopause. Fluctuating hormone levels affect your body’s thermoregulation system, which can cause you to have a sudden onset of chills instead of a hot flash. Cold flashes can also occur after a hot flash as your body tries to bring your temperature back to equilibrium.

2. Insomnia

Your sleep problems might not be caused by stress. Difficulty falling and staying asleep is common during menopause due to both hot flashes and increased neurological excitability. This sleep deprivation often leads to fatigue, which is compounded by your body trying to adjust to lower levels of estrogen.

3. Body Odor

Your body odor can change for many reasons during menopause, including increased sweating from hot flashes and changes in your vaginal discharge. This is totally normal, but you can talk to your doctor about solutions if the smell really bothers you.

4. Bloating And Indigestion

If you’ve been experiencing an increase in stomach problems, including bloating, indigestion, acid reflux, and tummy aches, that pizza you ate might not be to blame. Fluctuating hormone levels can trigger these symptoms years before your period officially stops.

5. Dry Eyes

During menopause, the glands in your eyes reduce their production of both moisture and oil, which can cause your eyes to dry out. Regular use of eye drops will help ease your symptoms, and running a humidifier indoors can also help, especially if you live in a dry climate.

6. Skin Changes

Your eyes aren’t the only things that might feel dry. Many women experience thinner, drier, itchier skin during menopause due to reduced oil production and decreased collagen. Women may also experience hormonal breakouts, even if they have never had acne before, thanks to their fluctuating hormone levels.

7. Hair Changes

Some women also experience hair thinning or loss during menopause, which is caused by having comparatively higher levels of androgen once their estrogen starts dropping. Changing up your hair care routine and easing up on damaging chemical or heat treatments can help revitalize its appearance.

8. Allergies

Falling hormone levels can sometimes trigger your body to increase histamine production. An unfortunate side effect of this is the worsening of existing allergies, or the development of new allergies that you never had before.

9. Burning mouth

A significant minority of menopausal women experience this sensation, in which their tongue and/or mouth burns or tingles without apparent cause. This sensation is often accompanied by a bitter or metallic taste. The sensation and taste may linger, or it may come and go at random.

10. Neurological Symptoms

The fluctuating levels of menopause can lead to a variety of unusual neurological symptoms, including unexplained dizziness, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), tingling sensations on the skin, and the sensation of “electric shocks” preceding a hot flash.

11. Breast Pain

Your breasts can swell and become tender around your period, and this can also happen during menopause. Other women actually experience a loss of fullness in their breasts instead as their milk ducts and glands shrink. You might also notice that your breasts begin to sag more, which happens as they become more dense and less fatty due to age.

12. Vaginal Dryness

Reduced hormone levels plus age cause the tissues in your vaginal area to become thinner, drier, and less flexible. This can lead to pain during sex, burning and/or itching sensations, the constant urge to urinate, and vaginal bleeding and discharge.

13. Urinary Problems

That thinning, weaker tissue can have another side effect: bladder leakage and difficulty urinating. This is also more common in women who have given birth vaginally, which stretches out the pelvic muscles and tissues, but it can happen to anyone.

14. Achy Muscles And Joints

Estrogen helps keep inflammation under control, so when your estrogen levels drop, you may experience increased inflammation in your body. This can manifest as achy muscles and joints and intensify other related conditions such as arthritis, which are common as you age.

15. Headaches

Some women experience headaches around their periods, and this can also happen during perimenopause and menopause as well. These may run-of-the-mill headaches or serious migraines that make it difficult to live daily life.

16. Brain Fog

Some short-term memory loss is to be expected with age, but it’s not only caused by getting older. Some women find it hard to think, concentrate, and recall during menopause due to sleep disturbances, as well as changing hormone levels.

17. Rage

Mood swings are common whenever your hormone levels change, but some women experience unexplained feelings of irritation, frustration, and even rage when going through menopause. These feelings can be intensified by disturbed sleep and ongoing fatigue.

If you want relief for menopause symptoms, ask your doctor about your options. Whether it’s a short-term solution like Always discreet pads for bladder leakage, or a long-term solution like hormone replacement therapy for hot flashes, there are treatments available that can help you get through menopause.

Last year was a transformative one for Ree Drummond aka The Pioneer Woman. The star has lost 55 pounds since January 2021, and has since kept it off after she decided she wanted to start before her daughter’s wedding in May. Little exercise and a hectic work schedule had led the Food Network host to her highest weight ever—but not for long.

In June, she was 43 pounds lighter and explained how cutting calories, building muscle, increasing her protein intake, eating less sugar, eliminating alcohol, logging her weight with an app, and other habits were essential. She admits in a new blog post that she thought it would be a final weight loss recap, but she’s since lost even more pounds and is sharing everything the experience taught her.

Starting in January, Drummond went all-in and focused on the changes like calorie counting and exercising that once the summer came around, felt like daily life.

“The initial, more intense, stage doesn’t have to last forever,” says she is “glad I’d been so strict for that first stage, because it wound up being a nice crash course that equipped me going forward. Starting out with that discipline actually allowed me more freedom later in the process.”

“I can’t emphasize this enough,” Drummond says in the blog post. “Building muscle—not just the smaller muscles in your arms, but the larger muscles in your legs and butt—will turbo charge your weight loss like nothing else and set you up for more success.”

Moves she says helped burn the most calories in the initial months were squats, lunges, and deadlifts. Good news—these are also some of The 5 Best Exercises to Build Better Glutes, Trainer Says.

Shutterstock

Once she started paying more attention not only to what she was putting in her body, but how much, Drummond started breaking the spell. “I trained my body to get used to smaller—well, I should say more normal—portions,” she says noting that a year later she is still “eating all the foods I love, but my body is satisfied with much less of it.”

Shutterstock / Cabeca de Marmore

Although she cut alcohol in the first half of the year, Drummond admits that having a social drink once in a while is not a bad thing at all. She says she swaps sugary, caloric drinks like daiquiris and margaritas and other sweet cocktails for things like Ranch Water—which is clear tequila, lime juice, and sparkling water over ice—or a White Wine Spritzer—made up of a small amount of cold white wine, sparkling water, and lemon slices—because they are more hydrating and help her to not drink as much. Basically, it’s like having “two drinks for the calories of one,” she says.

FlexiSpot

In addition to building muscle and getting used to exercising, Drummond explains in her blog post that movement every day helped her achieve her goals. After the initial weight loss, she found herself sidetracking from her routine, and was only exercising two or three times a week—but on the days when she wasn’t, she could feel the difference.

“So I made sure to stay more committed than ever to using my standing desk, stepping away for frequent breaks, and putting myself in a position to move more,” she says, noting that little habits like this have stuck. “Today, I’m still using a standing desk and not letting myself collect too much dust during the day.”

Shutterstock

The act of stepping on a scale can be triggering, Drummond admits, but seeing the number for her wasn’t about obsessing over each ounce she wanted to lose. “Before I decided to lose weight last January, I don’t think I’d stepped on a scale for two years,” she explains. “I willfully hadn’t weighed myself because I never wanted to know. Without seeing that number go up over time, it was easy for me to tell myself that it was probably just a few pounds.”

Instead, it now helps her identify trends in her body. She includes screenshots of her weight tracking via the Happy Scale app. Here’s what she says about what the habit is like now:

“I’m settling in just below the original goal weight I imagined for myself—which, by the way, was intentionally realistic! I wasn’t striving for pre-marriage, pre-baby, pre-thirties weight! 😊 Just a good weight where I thought I’d feel and look better, and where I felt I’d be able to maintain and have longer term success.”

Shutterstock

“There’s nothing on my list of banned foods!” Drummond says about her life after weight loss. Yep—nothing! Like the first lesson she learned, the first few months of 2021 were stricter in terms of her diet of a few sugary foods and no alcohol consumption. Now she follows two thoughts—”First, my portions are much more reasonable. Second, I do still pay attention to the daily proportions I’m devoting to both high protein foods and foods with wasted calories.”

Courtesy of On The Border

Drummond says in her blog post that she looks at some foods now as calories that aren’t as beneficial and nutritional as others. These “wasted calorie” foods include sugary soft drinks, cookies, cake, potato chips, donuts, and other similar foods. Now she tries to think of eating a “Rhode Island” sized portion of these foods instead of a “Texas” size.6254a4d1642c605c54bf1cab17d50f1e

“Using the doughnut as an example, some days I eat half the doughnut. Some days I decide not to eat the doughnut. Other days I’ll pinch off a bite of the doughnut. Heck, there will be a day now and then when I will eat the whole doughnut,” she says, noting that “There’s no hard and fast rule, but I’m just more mindful of it now.”

While 53-year-old says her daughter’s wedding in May was a great motivational tool for her initial weight loss, Drummond says that being steady with adding in more exercise and controlling portion sizes, and changing how she eats is easier than focusing all efforts on one thing.

“I’ve been able to experience different approaches: building muscle, eating more protein, moving/standing more, exercising on the rowing machine, logging my daily weight, etc.” she explains. Doing this has allowed her more control over the changes that come with life.

Shutterstock

The star hesitates to say her weight loss was a “lifestyle change” because she never wanted to change her lifestyle. Instead, she says the experience has been a sort of perspective shift on portion sizes, movement, protein intake, and more, as she sees those things differently a year later.

She then shares a before and after picture, not to label one as “bad” and the other as “good”, but because “it is helpful for me to see the distance I’ve come, and to know that the changes have been good for me,” she says.

Her lifestyle is the same—she is doing the exact same things every day like “living on the ranch, filming my cooking show, working on cookbooks and my product line, and being a wife and slightly weird mom” as she was a year ago. The only difference is her weight loss and the lessons she has learned!

“Today I feel stronger, more in balance (both physically and mentally), and I have more spring to my step. I am wearing clothes I wasn’t comfortable wearing a year ago, I feel better about the way I look, and I’m smiling more,” she ends the post staying. “But to come full circle…it hasn’t changed my life itself. I still have cow manure in my yard, for example. It’s on top of snow, and it’s ruining the dreamy winter vibe. 😂 Gotta go clean that up now, but at least that’ll help me get out and move!”

There are some items a woman simply can’t leave the house without. And while the contents of our handbags may change ever so slightly with each different stage of our lives, there will always remain those trusty handbag essentials that every girl needs.

Here’s my list of the 10 essential handbag items that I just couldn’t do without:

1. Period Products

There’s nothing worse than getting caught out by a period you weren’t expecting. You could be as regular as clockwork, but from my own personal experience I know how sometimes it likes to take you completely unawares. So, you gotta be prepared!

Keep a small make up bag in your handbag and fill it with all of your essential period products. Tampons, sanitary towels, moon cup, period pants, wipes, whatever your period product of choice is, whack it in there and be safe in the knowledge that you’ll never be caught out again.

2. Fast-Acting Pain Relief

When you’re a girl on the go you can’t afford to be held back by niggly aches and pains. Whether it’s a headache, period pain, or you’ve gone too hard at it at the gym, it’s important to take some control back by ensuring you have some fast-acting pain relief stashed away in that handbag of yours.

Paingone is perfect for when you want something portable and small enough to fit into your handbag without taking up too much valuable space (I mean there are 9 other handbag essentials to fit in there too!) and even better it’s totally drug free. I don’t know about you lot, but I like to keep my paracetamol and ibuprofen intake low and keep things as au naturel as possible.

3. Hand Sanitiser

Covid restrictions may now have eased, but I have a feeling we’re all going to be using hand sanitiser for some time to come. This handbag essential ain’t going nowhere!

More than anything I think covid highlighted just how many germs are out there. I never used to question using a supermarket trolley, or door handles, but when you stop and think about how many people have touched these things, and let’s face it not everyone has the same hygiene standards, well yeah I am all for continuing hand sanitising.

Most public places still supply hand sanitiser for their customers to use, but the quality of hand sanitiser can be very hit and miss. Keep a bottle of your favourite scented hand sanitiser in your bag so that you don’t have to use a product that is too sticky or dries your hands out too much.

4. Hand Cream

Talking of which, what with all this hand sanitising, combined with the cold winter weather, our poor hands are really suffering. The one thing every woman needs in her handbag, particularly at this time of year, is a good quality hand cream.

Choose a hand cream that is suitable for your skin. Natural ingredients are always best and try to also buy products that are organic, ethically sourced and sustainable so that you can help the planet as well as your hands.

5. Reusable Face Mask

The rules for having to legally wear face masks inside public shared spaces have now been scrapped. However, despite this being the case, it is highly likely that many people will continue to wear them for the time being.

Plus, as we all know, these rules and restrictions can change at the drop of a hat, so it’s always best to channel our inner Brownie, and be prepared by having a reusable face mask safely tucked away in our handbags.

6. Lip Balm

Chapped, sore lips are commonplace at this time of year and the only thing you can do to either prevent them from getting in this state, or to help soothe them if they’re too far gone, is by lathering them in lovely lip balm.

Make sure you buy a new lip balm every year, especially if it is a lipstick style one that you apply directly to the lips, as they can harbour all kinds of bacteria. In fact, I like to buy a few of them so that I can keep one in in my handbag, one on my bedside table, and one in various coat pockets. In my opinion a girl can never have too many lip balms!

7. Crystal Water Bottle

Now this one will depend on the size of your handbag, but if you’re a lover of a large tote then this is one handbag essential you definitely can’t live without.

We all know how important it is to stay hydrated, and I’m sure many of you already carry a water bottle around with you in a bid to reach your daily water target. But I want to take it to the next level, which is why I am all over these water bottles that I’ve seen that contain a crystal in the centre of them for extra added health and wellness benefits. Aside from the fact they look all kinds of pretty, the crystal releases its accumulated energy into your water. Thus, when you drink your crystal infused water you also take in the given energies of that crystal.

The choice of crystal is up to you of course. Perhaps you’d like to lower your stress levels in which case go for something like Amethyst or Black Tourmaline. Or maybe you’d like to improve your creativity, in which case opt for Citrine or Aquamarine. There is a crystal for everything, so do a little research and choose the one that feels right for you.

8. Reusable Bag

We’re all so much better at making environmentally friendly choices and have long been using reusable bags for our shopping. So, this handbag item probably won’t come as too much of a surprise. But to take it next level eco warrior it’s all about choosing bags that aren’t just reusable, but that are also either made from recycled materials or that are biodegradable when they reach the end of their lifespan.

Look out for bags made of modern materials, such as plant starch, that are compostable. Or if you prefer a sturdier bag, opt for organic cotton, that can also be washed if it gets dirty, and used time and time again. If you’re a bit handy with a sewing machine you could even have a go at making yourself a reusable bag out of any old clothes you no longer wear.

9. Aromatherapy Pulse Point Oil

We all like to smell nice, right? But what if you could smell nice and feel good both at the same time? See, it’s easy to bung a sample bottle of perfume in your bag, but after the couple of years we’ve all just had I reckon we could do with utilising the power of aromatherapy with a pulse point oil.

You can find them online or in independent specialist stores, I know we’ve got tonnes of shops that sell these in my local hometown. And the idea is you roll them on your pulse points whenever you feel the need. For example, if you’re feeling a little stressed it would be wise to look out for an oil like frankincense of clary sage, which have properties proven to ease stress and anxiety. By applying the oil to your pulse points, either your wrists or neck, it means it gets into your bloodstream quicker as the blow flows closest to the skin at these points. And that means you feel the benefits super, super quickly.

10. Positive Affirmations

Every woman needs their own cheerleader for those feel good self-love vibes. I love reading positive affirmations to help lift my mood and empower me throughout the day, so how about filling your handbag with little words of cheer, to make you smile every time you go rooting around in there.

It goes without saying that your handbag will contain your keys and phone, I mean no one goes anywhere without those handbag essentials do they, but how about accessorizing them with a positive message keyring or an empowering quote phone case. By sending ourselves these little messages every now and again, it helps motivate us and instil a sense of self-worth, which is something we could all benefit more from.

What Would You List As Your Handbag Essentials?

What makes a woman attractive to a woman?

And how can you know for sure if a woman you know is attracted to you?

Whether you feel the same or not isn’t the issue here.

Once you know how to tell if a woman is attracted to another woman, it’s up to you to decide what to do if you pick up the signs in a woman you know.

Let’s start by answering some questions you might have.

Can A Straight Woman Be Attracted to Another Woman?

Is it possible for a straight woman to be attracted to another woman? Short answer: Yes. Longer answer: It’s complicated.

First of all, it’s important to note the different types of attraction. Sexual and romantic attraction are the most talked about, but there are other ways to experience attraction.

A straight woman may experience strong aesthetic, emotional, platonic, or sensual attraction to another woman.

These types of attraction can even be confused for romantic or sexual attraction.

Second, a woman can realize that she’s not straight at any point in her life. So, even if she identifies as straight, she may begin to develop romantic feelings for another woman.

And, turns out, female-to-female attraction signs aren’t so different from the signs you’d see in a woman who’s crushing hard on a guy.

That said, what should you look for?

What Attracts A Woman to Another Woman? 7 Signs You Need to Know

If the woman you’re thinking of is exhibiting more than one of the following signs, chances are, those signals are a strong indicator of her preference for your company.

It might help, too, to ask yourself, “What would I think if she were acting the same way toward a guy?”

1. She ventures closer to you.

Given a chance and an excuse that sounds innocent enough, she’ll sit right next to you—at a table, on the couch, at the movies, or anywhere you might be.

Of course, if she’s in another relationship, she may not feel free to do this, especially when her significant other is around. Or maybe she’ll stay in proximity to you without realizing it.

She doesn’t feel the need for a space cushion between you. And as long as it doesn’t freak you out, she’s happy to sit as close to you as you’ll allow.

She’s even happier if you take the initiative and sit close to her. In fact, any time you sit or stand closer to her, she feels a surge of warmth you can often see on her face, even when she’d rather keep her feelings for you secret.

If she’s into you, she probably won’t be subtle about it (for long).

2. She uses any excuse to spend time with you.

She wants to be where you are. And if she can think of a good excuse to visit or join you on an errand or invite you over to her place, she will.

Then, once you two have arranged a meeting, she’ll spend whatever time leads up to it wringing her hands, mentally rehearsing everything she said to you, and curling up with a soothing drink (when she’s not pacing and scolding herself).

Once she’s with you, though, she’s happy again. And, if possible, she wants you all to herself. If someone else is there, and if her schedule allows, she’ll stay until your other company leaves. Then she’ll relish the time she has alone with you.

3. She’ll use any excuse to text or message you.

Any text or email from you, and she’s instantly awake, alert, and scouring the message for subtext. She’ll laugh at herself later (through tears), but for now, she’s walking on air.

She’ll read the text, absorb it, roll it around in her head for a bit, and then sketch out some ideas for a reply. She’ll agonize over the best response and the best possible phrasing for it.

But eventually, after sketching out some ideas and choosing the least problematic, she’ll leave her response and hope for an encouraging rejoinder from you–at least if her response contained a question.

She also loves it when you give her a reason to message you (It really doesn’t take much).

4. She uses any excuse for physical contact.

When it comes to you, she’s always ready for hugs and gentle touches to the arm, shoulder, or back. She’ll even let you touch her hair. It may even seem as though she’s leaning in, hoping for some kind of touch from you.

If she’s less receptive to touch with other people, this is a strong sign that she feels closer to you than to most. She craves that connection with you above all. Offer your hand, and she’ll take it. Offer your arms, and she’ll walk right into them.

And if she feels at home there, she’ll only let go when she feels you pulling back. You can feel it in her hugs, too. She might seem hesitant at first, but once you’re hugging, she’ll melt into it. She’ll linger as long as you’ll allow it—unless she feels suspicious eyes upon her.

And if she leans in for a kiss or actually lands one, well — game over. You know for sure she sees you as a potential romantic partner.

5. She seems deflated when you talk about someone else

If there’s even a chance you might have romantic feelings toward someone who isn’t her, she’ll look for the signs. And if she sees them—or thinks she sees them—she’s likely to seem a bit subdued or even depressed.

On the other hand, if she picks up the slightest sign that you prefer her company, she’ll bloom. It’s not that she doesn’t see herself as worthy of someone like you (though she might). But she wants to be your number one.

The plain truth of it is you’re the only one in the world (other than herself) whose perception of her matters. If she’s got your attention and your smiles, she has hope.

6. She goes back and forth between being subtle and being more overt.

Then she also goes back and forth between thinking she’s being too subtle and wringing her hands thinking she’s not subtle enough.

The agony is real. Everyone acts like an idiot when they’re in love—at least sometimes.

She knows what she’s feeling, but she’s not sure you feel the same way toward her. After all, she probably thinks you could have your pick of younger, smarter, and hotter women.

So, if you’re picking up on her interest in you, she imagines you thinking, “Oh, uh… This is awkward, but I’m kinda interested in someone else. I thought we were just friends.”

Cue the hyperventilating and string of profanities.

7. She asks you out.

If she’s feeling brave (or just really wants to feel that way), she might even ask you out. After all, since you’re both women, she’s less likely to wait for you to make the first move.

If she asks, you’re the only one invited—no one competing with her for your attention. And if she gets a “Yes” from you, she’ll go all out to make your time together as enjoyable as possible.

She’ll want to spoil you. She’ll want to make sure you get the hint that you’re worth all the trouble she’s gone to to make your date memorable. She aims for an experience you’ll want to repeat.

Because, to her, this is only the beginning.

Ree Drummond, AKA The Pioneer Woman, has undergone a massive weight loss transformation in the past six months, shedding a staggering 43 pounds since January. However, the star says it’s not a trendy diet or expensive exercise routine that helped her lose the weight. Read on to discover Drummond’s 10 essential habits for dropping the pounds and keeping them off.

In a new post on her website, Drummond says that she didn’t do keto, intermittent fasting, or any type of weight loss program to shed the pounds, nor did she buy diet foods. Instead, she relied on the tried-and-true “calories in, calories out” method.

“I tried to achieve a calorie deficit most days, which means I expended more calories (through exercise and just basic daily activity) than my body required to maintain my then-weight,” she said, explaining that she used online tools to help her find out the calories in her food.

“Counting my calories was nothing short of eye opening, and for me it was essential.”

In addition to tracking her daily caloric intake and shooting to eat fewer calories than she was burning, Drummond used a digital food scale to make sure she was consuming the right portion sizes.

“It really woke me up to the portions I had grown accustomed to eating! As with calories, I had completely lost sight of the volume I was eating—so it was an education in those first few weeks,” says Drummond, who says that she no longer weighs her portions for every meal now that she has a better idea of how to eyeball things.

Shutterstock

Drummond says that she didn’t use a trainer to help her slim down, relying on what she had on hand instead to help her get more exercise.

“I walked 2 to 3 miles, or did the rowing machine, or did Pilates,” using a floor-based Pilates routine, she explained. “I exercised 6 days a week, sometimes twice a day (morning walk, evening rowing machine), sometimes just once.”

Shutterstock

After finding her weight loss plateauing after just over a month on her journey, Drummond began incorporating weight-bearing exercises into her routine.

When she started, Drummond says, “I had zero strength in my lower body and my legs trembled and gave out. But I still did it, about four days a week to start, and laughed at my uncoordinated clumsiness every time.” She now does a routine of squats, lunges, and other muscle-toning exercises on a regular basis.

Shutterstock

While Drummond says she didn’t stick to any particular diet plan to lose weight, she does admit that ramping up her protein intake was essential in terms of her weight loss.

“On a typical day, I had been landing at around 15% to 20% of my calories from protein…so I pivoted and steered my eating so that I was around 30% to 40% protein. It worked!” In doing so, Drummond says she got past her weight loss plateau and experienced greater satiety on a daily basis.

As a means of cutting calories while staying satisfied, Drummond cut down her sugar intake dramatically, opting instead for more filling foods. However, she says that the occasional treat is still on the menu.

“Were there days I gave in and had a piece of cake? Yes! I’m The Pioneer Woman and I love food! Ha. But the piece of cake was the size of Rhode Island instead of Texas, and it wasn’t an everyday thing,” she says.

Shutterstock / goffkein.pro

As a means of both cutting calories and adopting healthier habits in terms of her exercise and eating, Drummond drank no alcohol during the first four months of her weight loss journey.

While Drummond says she’s “back to having an occasional grown-up beverage again,” she now opts for tequila with Topo Chico sparkling mineral water and fresh lime juice instead of more caloric drinks.

Shutterstock / Africa Studio

To stay on track with her weight loss, Drummond relied on the Happy Scale app, which helps illustrate how many pounds you’ve lost and the rate at which you’re losing.

“Let me tell you that it was a GAME CHANGER in terms of motivating me to keep going,’ she says.

“It was the magic bullet for me because it takes away the occasional frustration of natural ebbs and flows of weight loss by giving you your moving average weight along with your literal weight.”

Shutterstock / 4Max

Since Drummond was writing a cookbook while trying to lose weight, she opted for a standing desk to ensure she didn’t spend the whole day sitting.

“I found more than anything was that when you are working in a standing position, you are a lot more mobile and prone to step away and take breaks…If I’d been standing and working awhile and I felt like moving around, I’d just leave my desk and go outside, go get water, go take a short walk.”

Instead of declaring her weight loss journey over after shedding significant weight, Drummond says she’s looking at her transformation as an ongoing lifestyle change that keeps her feeling healthier.

“I’ll keep weighing in every day to have all the information I need going forward, but the number isn’t what I’m paying attention to now…My experiences over the past few months have equipped me with real, doable tools that I feel like I’ll be able to whip out whenever things get off track in the coming months and years.” And for more on how celebs have stayed healthy during the pandemic, Brooke Burke Is Thrilled She Doesn’t Have to Track Calories With This Diet and Exercise Routine.

The specifics on what it means to be a lady are not something universally agreed upon.

But research (so much research) has turned up some general rules.

If you cringe every time someone shares their outdated ideas on how to be ladylike, you”re not alone.

But it’s encouraging to see so many people calling out the body-shaming and misogyny baked into many of the old rules.

To get some clarity, let’s start with the question, “What is ladylike behavior?”

Then we can move on to the why and the how.

What Makes a Lady a Lady?

If you’re asking, “How do I become more ladylike and feminine?” you’ll find plenty of value in the list further down.

But before we dive in, let’s get clear on what it means to be a lady, starting with the following indispensable qualities:

Kindness

Compassion

Trustworthiness

Self-respect

Honesty

The tips supplied in this post are for your personal reflection. The only comparison going on should happen between you and the woman you want to be.

How to Be a Lady: 105 Tips for the Modern Woman

As you read the following tips on how to act like a lady, keep in mind that no one has the right to impose on anyone else their idea of what it means to be feminine.

Mature womanhood doesn’t look the same for everyone. And that’s something to celebrate.
