5 of the Latest 2022 Food Trends — Healyourhealthyourself

Top 5 Food Trends in 2022:

  1. Packaged Sustainable Seafood

Sustainable seafood was a trend in 2021 and it isn’t going anywhere. This makes sense considering the shift towards the Blue Revolution – a movement aiming to drastically increase aquaculture production, help alleviate the pressure in the oceans ecosystem and provide sustainable seafood for millions. Here are some sustainable seafood products that are great for both you and the environment:

Whether you’re full vegan or looking to adopt a more plant focused lifestyle, there are so many new products on the market to try. Here’s a few you may not have heard of:

  • Flax Milk by Good Karma Foods – dairy free, allergy friendly and filled with plant based omega-3s

  • Halloumi-inspired Vegan Cheese by Violife Foods – perfect for a greek salad or paired with pita crackers

  • Pistachio Milk by Tache – better for the environment as it uses less water than almond milk for production

  • Pumpkin Seed Milk by Patch Organics – a great nut-allergy friendly option with delicious flavor

  • Moku Mushroom Jerky – this plant based jerky is filled with 9g of fiber and 6g of protein per bag

  • Meati – a vegan “meat” made from a special type of root plentifully found in nature, known as mycelium. Growing indoors means Meati is ultra-clean, pure and unexposed to external elements like pollutants, pesticides, antibiotics or growth hormones

    3. Better For You Convenience Snacks

Listen, we know life gets busy and it’s not always possible to have access to whole foods. This is where convenience-type snacks come into play. The issue is that most convenient snacks are filled with added sugars and have little nutrient density which leaves you with an energy spike followed by a crash. However, this year I’ve seen so many great brands creating products with a better nutrition profile that helps you beat hunger and feel your best all day long.

Food trends aren’t the only thing to watch out for. Beverages being made with nutrient boosting ingredients are on the rise.

  • TuMe Turmeric Water – keeps you hydrated while also providing anti-inflammatory benefits

  • Hot Chocolate with Functional Mushrooms – filled with reishi, chaga and maitake mushrooms which have adaptogenic benefits that support stress and anxiety relief

  • Aloha Superfood Creamer – created with macadamia nuts, oats, avocado oil, and aquamin, a multi-mineral complex of calcium and other trace minerals

  • Salud Hydration + Immunity Mix – filled with elderberry extract, coconut water, electrolytes and more to keep you hydrated while supporting your immune system

  • Goldthread tonics – feel-good drinks made from superherbs, citrus and natural, zero calorie sweetener

  • Free Rain – sparkling water filled with adaptogens like maca, siberian ginseng, ashwagandha and passionflower

    5. Nootropics

Nootropics are a class of substances that may boost brain function, memory, focus, creativity and motivation. There are both natural and synthetic (supplement) forms of nootropics. Here are some nootropic supplements to consider:

  • L-Theanine – this is found naturally in tea but also can be taken as a supplement to promote feelings of calmness

  • Bacopa Monnieri – this is an ancient herb that may enhance brain function

  • Rhodiola Rosea is an adaptogenic herb that may help you better adapt to stress

  • Ginkgo Biloba comes from extracted leaves of a tree and may have positive effects on blood pressure and cortisol levels

  • Lion’s mane mushroom which may protect the brain from damage and alzheimer’s disease

Some brands that add nootropics into their products include Brain Tea, TruBrain and Rishi Tea.

Nutrition trends are ever-changing, but I have a feeling these are here to stay for a while. Comment below which of these trends you are most excited about trying!
